So after wheeling all weekend I’m going to call this a stop gap fix. The can fills up rather quickly. It it does the job. Kudos and thanks to those who recommended it….much appreciated.

Hoping the aftermarket comes out with a solution that doesn’t require emptying something after a long trip.

Didn’t read the whole thread but thought I’d drop this on you all.

First time my truck ever smoked. Low rpm, winch was doing most of the work. Truck made a slight noise then shut off. Oil everywhere underneath. Cracked on drivers side and passenger side.

Eh it’s fine. Motor had no balls anyway.

Not really and steeper than I’ve been on before, I think it was just the incline and the off camber that did it in

Over the last few months I've pretty much benched the Tacoma in favor of the 80, especially when I'm going to be in an unfamiliar area.

This smoking thing has really made me lose faith in the offroad ability of this truck.

Install an oil catch can in your EGR system and empty it out once and a while, others have reported that it fixed it for them.

That's a good thing to remember. If you're on a sustained incline and you see smoke. Stop and dump the catch can and try to gtfo of there haha.

Good to hear another confirmation that the "stopgap fix" somewhat works...

Someone posted an exploded view if the cylinder head in another thread, it showed the intake for the EGR and it "looked" like the intake was quite deep below the rocker cover....

Maybe someone more adventurous than me will take the rocker cover off and verify,
may be as simple of cutting the length of that intake down, or putting one with a floating ball check valve in it...
That may give you more incline time before the catch can gets full.

So, for those of you who are running a catch can on your 3rd Gens, how has it been so far? Has it solved the smoking/engine pinging issue? I know that the amount of oil it catches will vary depending on how many inclines you drive through but has anyone loaded the can up beyond its capacity?
