There is a spreadsheet floating around somewhere that has their plan for engines for the TNGA line. The Tacoma and 4 runner have the Turbo 4's and the Tundra/LC/Sequoia get the 6's.

So far that sheet has been correct, so It looks like they are following their plan.

Rear discs and 4-link coil-sprung rear axle. The lower link is clearly visible in the front 3/4 view. It's still unknown which side the fuel filler door will be, since the camo has flaps on both sides.
Depth perception may be throwing off the scaling. There's a Yukon/Tahoe in the parking spot behind the camouflaged truck.

Prediction: no matter what they do, a lot of us are going to walk around saying "tHeY rUiNeD iT!" for the fist year... that's been the case for me every time they've redesigned the Tacoma. It took me longer to come around to the 3rd gen than 2nd, and if I had a time machine I'd still bring home a brand new 1st gen or T100.

Looks can always be fixed by the aftermarket, as long as the drivetrain is reliable and solid it should still sell pretty well...probably

Yeh leaf spring rear is old tech. Say goodbye or major reduction to rear end bounciness.

Yep axle wrap should be gone with 4-link. The tricky part with a truck is to minimize the bed space intrusion with the coil spring buckets.

...and that's the tough needle that Toyota has to thread with the 4th gen: finding the balance between making a midsize truck that appeals to the masses, and making, well... a Tacoma.

When I test drove a Tacoma and a '22 Frontier back-to-back a couple weeks ago, I had to explain to my wife that "If I were a reviewer for Car and Driver or Consumer Reports or something, the Frontier would be the obvious winner. But I'm not a Car and Driver reviewer, I'm me, and I'm getting a Tacoma."

Kind of like the Wrangler aficionados with their "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand," there's an indestructible juvenile charm to the Tacoma that nobody else's trucks can compete with. I don't want a generic vanilla midsize truck, I want a Tacoma.

I don't envy the folks at Toyota who are stuck trying to balance those competing priorities on every design decision along the way!

Looks like it comes with a standard issue ball cap like F150s. Sadly no Oakleys.

Right? People are already saying Toyota will lose out on the top spot in midsize sales because it's ugly and the truck isn't even out yet. I remember all of the dire predictions when the 3rd gen came out and how there was no way Toyota could sell a truck that looked like that. Apparently, Toyota's market research is a bit better than Tacomaworld's. lol

Toyota builds what the market wants, not necessarily what Tacomaworld wants. If it has rear disc brakes, everybody on here will be clamoring to get one.

Yeah, I can't see Toyota putting anything with more than 4 cylinders in the next gen Tacoma. My bet is some variation of the 2.4 Turbo 4 in the new NX, with an optional hybrid.

I'm going say no MT either in the 4th gen unless they keep the 2.7.

Could simply be a 4x2 or entry level package. Or the camouflage. I wouldn't put too much weight into it yet.

All 3rd Gens except for the Pro have the same ride height. As I noted in a further post, they may be going the GM / Ford route and going (back) to different ride heights.

I also noted twice now that I took the camo skirt into account in my SWAG.

What could we possibly put into it other than pure speculation?
