    Great weather today at the summit of Mt. Mitchell. 57* with a 15-20 MPH wind blowing. Guess I’ll need to go back one day for the views.

    i thought this trip was a shake down to see how the camping set up works for you? no better way to test it than in bad weather. unless you feel like youre risking life and limb to do so. what happens if the first time youre out in bad weather happens to be when you dont have any other option than to tough it out? woudl suck to find out then that your gear isnt up to par.

    It is a shake down, I just haven’t gotten to the shaking yet. I’m still interstating it to VA, I didn’t want to make it a 12 hour push so this is the play part of the trip. My return leg is a the dirt road route when I’ll really see how it works.

    I dont even know if they stock places around here anymore. We have hatcheries... just not sure what they do with the fishies once they grow up...
    When I was a kid I got to see the fish wildlife and parks guys do stock releases a couple of times. Once they did it in a campground along the Big Hole River where we were staying. They showed up with a big water tanker truck full of fish and one of the guys climbed up to the access hatch on the top. He popped the lid and one of the fish jumped out and landed right at my feet. The fish was a little stunned but otherwise fine. I got to carry him over to the river and let him go. Would have preferred to keep him for dinner but whatever...
