any of the pieces that are attached need to stay attached

if you’ve got questions, goose gear got back to me fairly quickly when I reached out to them and Brian called me to walk me through the questions I had (I had one of the first ones before there was any kind of instructions)

Their instructions are almost nonexistent. I left the spacers out and tightened the bolts down snug on mine. Been fine for over 6 months so far.

For those that have done this, how much extra road noise did you gain? Really want to do one of these.

What I was afraid of, but honestly I kind of knew the answer. Can't help but gain noise from the loss off all that padding and fabric. The utility aspect is the big gain. Appreciate the feedback.

Ya, definitely take the time to install sound deadening stuff. That's the longest part of the install and a big pain but totally worth it.

And then you get less noise AND all this room for activities, ha.

If you don’t do any sound deadening, quite a bit. Drive around with no rear seats and that’ll give you a good idea

I did 2 layers (80&150mm) on the truck 2 layers on the seat delete and they pretty much quieted it down to like it was having the seats installed

I didn't realize that the back wall would sit at an angle, which is a tad annoying. I also just need to get some larger washers to hold the back panel as the washers provided are too small and slip through when trying to attach the the large hole with the spacers. Oh well.

At this point, I'm not sure anyone is interested, but figured I'd post to follow up as this progresses. I spoke to someone at goose gear and he asked to send photos, so I'm waiting to hear back. What I got over the phone is that spacers should push the panel out enough for it to be vertical, and make room for the window motor, however the spacers are not large enough to make contact with the wall of the truck and the back of the panels. Therefore the panel still presses against the window motor. Also not sure I will finish the install because the 60 side has a bad latch mechanism for the hatch that requires the use of a screwdriver or something equally solid to press on it hard enough to get it to pop open, so I'm concerned if I put it in, I may not be able to get it open again.

    Absolutely still interested.

And another question on my part. Anyone used the bottom panels and left the seat backs in place (or is it even possible)? I know I'd gain more space without, but I do like the fact that they would help on overall noise and they tend to provide a nice hiding spot for goodies. You know, lawn darts and the like. Sorry again if this is a thread jack.

Unfortunately goose gear wasn't much help. I got conflicting info from someone at tinyrig about the install, so I am about to modify the spacer blocks myself and get the backplates installed.

I ended up popping off the wooden spacer blocks on the bottom of the back panels. I verified that the 1 inch plastic spacers still allow the back panels to clear the motor for the rear window. Also had to get some larger washers to hold the back panels in place. Also had a sticky latch on one cubby, but I removed the latch and reassembled it am it has been working. Overall I like it, but was disappointed with the inability of goose gear to answer my question regarding install. They may still get back to me, but I'm heading out on the next adventure and couldn't leave it half done.

Curious if this is really worth over a thousand dollars. I also want to take out the rear seats and put some decking back there, but can't imagine it would cost nearly this much to do it myself.

If you have the skill and patience there is no doubt you could build something at a fraction of the cost. It isn't possible to tell someone else if it's worth the cost because everyone has different needs, skills, etc. I think folks have used simple plywood to king starboard. I thought about it but decided against that route. It seems like a straightforward forward thing, but I know I don't have the skill or time or patience to build something nice.

My opinion so far is overall it is a nice product. It was packaged with care, and the coating on the platform seems extremely durable. That being said, for the cost I expected some instructions, and to not have to go to the hardware store to get larger washers, and to have what I would assume to be some simple questions answered without them telling me the next time they do an install on a tacoma they would check some things and get back to me. Aside from the frustration and annoyances I do like it and it is exactly what I expected.

There is a thread here of people building their own. It is doable and the results are great at a fraction of the cost. 20210131_114902.jpg
