I have one word to say guys....boooyahhhh!!! Smooth as glass now, from the first drive away from the shop all the way to my house I can actually fully enjoy my Tacoma now.

I had a Double Cardan drive shaft installed that has one zerk fitting in the middle (needs lubricating maybe twice a year). I forgot to ask if any axel shims were used, but I'll check tomorrow.

All of you who are looking to completely rid your truck of driveline vibes/shuddering this is the ticket. You can expect to spend between $400-$500 for the new shaft; I believe its worth every penny.

For any of you in the Portland Metro area, go to Six States off of Columbia Blvd. Ask for Ken, he's the best and probably one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

I don't think there is a 1 piece for 2wd....I thought there was another thread about this and it wasn't doable.

so let me get this straight....the shudder and vibrations felt in your steering wheel after lifting are due to your driveline?

I had a bit of a shudder when taking off and such but BeefedTaco's drop he made for the carrier bearing took care of it.

I thought the steering wheel crap was from wheels and the fact that it is so hard to get a proper alignment with our lifted trucks. I get a vibe in my steering wheel form around 30 t0 55 or so and then it goes away at the higher speeds

I figured i was just going to wait until i get new tires and have them balanced and aligned all in one shot. figured that would fix it

Take off shudder is driveline related for sure; other vibes felt in the seat that are typically felt between 15-25mph and again around 45-55mph after a lift are also due to the driveline. These two piece driveshafts once lifted become a bear to get properlly aligned. Some lucky owners can use a carrier bearing drop and shims to solve the problems. Others like me, have tried numerous different drops and shims and the problem still exists. My new driveshaft has solved ALL of the shudders/vibes completely. I was just out driving this morning and absolutley love the way my truck drives.

Steering wheel vibes can be from the driveline if it is throwing off enough vibration, but typically steering wheel shaking is a result from your wheels being out of balance or a combo of the two.

Please let us know if they used any axel shims. I tried the CB drop alone, that didn't work. I then added the 3* axel shims, and the combo didn't work. I then removed the CB drop and only ran the axel shims and that was the 'best' but I still have the shudder when I'm driving 5mph. It really sucks because my driveway is SO STEEP it feels like my truck is going to explode going up it.

yeah i want to know if i can order one of those and just install the thing myself no shims or nothing. sounds like you should just be able to drop your current shaft and install this thing and be done with it...

I thought the same, but apparently a new custom flange will need to be fabricated. The technician said install time took longer then he expected due to minor tweaks here and there; unless you have experience with drivelines I'd leave the install up to a professional.

New guy here ... great you figured out the one piece deal . I also had replaced many a two piece shaft with a single . They say over 60 inches is the recommended max limit on the length ... I have gone 65" on trucks .
Its allmost impossible to get a 2 piece shaft in phase with out having a CV joint on the end .
Tom Wood is good and so is Jess at Highangle drivelines is good also .

Tons of people have gone the Tom Woods route with mixed results. The best bet is to find a local shop that will do the install and keep 'tweaking' as necessary to perfection.
Fortunately I found a local shop (1.5 miles from the house). Once work quiets down, I'm giving Salem Spring a call!

I have not used Tom in a few years but I never had a problem with him . I just had 2 shafts made by Jess at Highangle and there were great .
Both were 1410 joint shafts , one was a 42 degree front and rear was just a standard on piece .

Probably a stupid question, but are vibrations caused by a lift only a problem for 4x4s or for Prerunners too?

Yep, this is an old thread, but OP, did you have shims installed on your rear axle? If so, what degree?

I've got a double cardan 1 piece but still get very slight vibes. I think I need to get my pinion angle just a wee bit better. I've got 2.5 degree shims in now. I'm going to get some 4 degree shims and try them. I've got the Dakar leafs with extra leaf for my rear suspension.
