How about assembled in America with Japanese made parts?

You DEMAND info. It's different when someone asks for something, and takes what they get. You're expecting something more than others are willing to waste their time answering. You've opened multiple threads on the same topic, and have been unwilling to research beyond the answers you've received. You're simply experiencing the result of your own attitude and approach.

My dude - that is cosmetic. If it triggers your OCD, just take a dremel with a barrel sander or grinding tip and smooth it out and hit it with a little paint - it still has 95%+ of the metal still there with all of the essential parts (pinch bolt threads, rag joint splines) untouched. It's doing it's job.

I'm sorry but I've done EXTENSIVE research. Studied all the responses and watched the videos DOZENS of times and looked at other posts. My questions have all originated in locating the source of a mysterious clunk. I've also taken it to many mechanics and have the receipts to prove it, no one has a straight answer, its weird. I certainly haven't just been hanging my hat on "oh the tacomaworld people will resolve this."

I have never used a demanding tone in asking questions and always asked in a polite, well crafted and cogent manner.

    Have a good nite

I hadn't come to a conclusion yet. I didn't say that it WAS shoddy work. I said I don't like shoddy work IN GENERAL, who does. I did not yet know that it was something that would normally happen in this circumstance. Now I do. That's why I asked. :)

I think a GM vehicle is more your speed. You get all new parts every time. Need new tie rods? Well you’ll need new spindles too because they’ll crack after you hammer on them.

"Have a good nite" this is demanding.. You don't want me to respond anymore, and rather than admit your attitude is demanding and disrespectful, you're demanding via assertion that it's, for some reason, nitey-nite time. I bet you're a hoot in social situations.

I didn't realize telling someone to have a good nite was "demanding" now. Guess I was wrong in thinking it was just simple polite rhetoric.

I posted this question to get facts and opinions. I have some now. Thank you all. I am not here to give or receive any personal attacks.

    Have a good night

    Respectfully,

Wouldn’t be hard to change, just a bolt top and bottom. Not sure how easy it is to find a better one though.

Your answer seems to conflict with everyone else but I find it compelling. I don't think the splines of the rack were hammered when this damage occurred. I think the damage occurred in the course of getting the old rack out. Am I wrong?

I'm sure Toyota can sell me the part. I just hope its not a huge deal to replace if need be. Now I am worried again.

I just took mine off the other night.

key was to unbolt both top and bottom bolts and fully remove them. I sort of suspect the mechanic tried to pound on it before removing the top bolt.

Meh, I've installed two racks in relatively rust free vehicles. Those like to stick. You could replace it, but you'd have to a. buy a part to replace something without any reason to replace it, b. either remove the steering rack or steering column which I would just put my money into a leased vehicle if I had that much OCD.

Dude you're getting trolled because you asked an absurd question (and immediately refused to listen to the rational responses). No one is analyzing the structural makeup of the steering components and splines in relation to impacts from an air hammer/chisel. You're over thinking and over reacting.

This thread in a nut shell- If you don't like the work done, you can take it up with the mechanic, but don't expect them to do anything about it.
