Your 2017 will need to have the ECU updated to 04B04. If you don't have that, you will have to do a TSB update as well, or have your dealer do it (since it was a TSB).

Thread on the TSB update: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ecu-tsb-update.562550/

Edit: if you are manual, your ECU ID should be 04B14 instead. 04B04 is for the AT.

Probably won't be until after Thanksgiving so I'll hit you or Chris up when the time gets close. Have fun on your trip, would be interested to see a map of your itinerary.

I reached out one of the tuners close by (in Ellicott City), planning to have him flash the KDMax tune pack to my truck. I'd buy VFTuner and do it myself, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to use my work laptop due to all the firewalls and would have to go out and buy one, so for now it's just cheaper to have a tuner do the flash.

Is quoting your own post similar to talking about yourself in the 3rd person? :)

My kids have probably heard me say a thousand times about walking uphill to school both ways, they can finish the sentence for me haha

Thinking about picking up a laptop anyway for the wife since she's on a 10+ year old Mac that is slow AF. Does the KDMax tune work only on Windows or is there a Mac version? If it only works on Windows, any recommendations on a decent laptop under $1000? My wife does mainly web browsing, maybe Google docs occasionally, nothing very intensive at all.

I don't think it does Apples. Mark, for a garage laptop I typically look for a refurb on places like Fry's Electronics. They run about $200-$300. They're not super-computers, but work great for out in the garage for stuff like tuning software, factory diagnostic software, and looking for YouTube videos on why everything I'm trying isn't working. Just a thought.

Yes, we did! Turns that a missing catalytic converters heat shield (probably in @3pooches mud pit!) can make everything else really hot. Imagine that. Chris helped me get some header wrap on it, and it made an immediate difference. This morning I wet it, then drove through rain for a few hours, and then dried it out. Normal temps all around.

I didn't sleep much last night worrying about the trans and going back for Gwen's car. I had a good talk with the service manager at Haleys Toyota in Roanoke who calmed me down a bit. So, tonight we shall sleep!
