Has anyone mentioned rear discs?! Even though you likely wouldn't notice any difference from a drivability standpoint since most of your braking is done up front. I had rear drums in my last truck as well and discs in the previous car I owned. The only difference was I was doing more work on the car with rear discs since I wasn't using them hard enough.

No one wants to admit it but the 3rd gen would be AWESOME with the 4.0 in it.

    Aluminum body.

It would help out with two of my biggest issues with the truck. Payload and fuel mileage. Would also improve accelaration and probably stopping distance as well.

Maybe, but not that wheezy non-dual vvti shit that the 2nd gen had. Probably be OK with the T4R version. Too bad that didn't make it into a Tacoma eh.

I cannot agree with y'all more. I have found nothing disappointing about the Tacoma this far but the sound system. I guess I will put in an Alpine system like I did in my last Jeep, but I'd rather have the factory screen.

...and worse fuel economy ratings. Not to mention issues with release bearings and such. Well, we did inherit some DNA from the previous gen, including the barn door clutch pedal creeeeeeeek.

    100%. When I say 4.0 I mean out of the 4runner.

Clearly that's the motor Toyota would have used if they put the 4.0 in the 3rd gen.

The Tacoma makes more HP and both vehicles are geared for different applications.

But alas, they probably couldn't meet their EPA/CAFE targets with the old boat anchor. Plus the 2GR corporate motor is in a shit ton of other platforms :notsure:

I mean, it would be nice.
Definitely not apples to apples, but a co-worker of mine has the Ram Ecodiesel and wishes he didn't. Nothing but trouble. He does get stellar fuel economy though lol
