@Mahana this is a good spot to pontificate on SR / SR5 harness ideas.

Thanks. I was telling @daveeasa that I thought there might be a market for a plug and play harness to update to turn signal mirrors on sr/sr5 models

So I wanted this discussion somewhere that would get peer review. I believe there is some complexity due to SR combining turn and DRL at the bulb. Johnny mentioned you might want to tap at the instrument cluster or fuse box to get a clean turn signal. But you might also like the combo DRL and turn signal if that works ok on the mirrors. I don’t really know to be honest.

I do have my OEM mirror turns (the chromey ones) but I don’t really have an SR to test on and observe. I could throw them on the bench but that would be rather boring watching lights turn on and off.

I wonder if the wire harness is there already for the mirror turn signals but is just not completed through the door wire boot up to the mirrors?

@Puppypunter I could use some help troubleshooting @jm71ss 's hyperflashing problems.

Setup: 2021 Sport, halogen headlights from the factory, changed to OEM LED with my conversion harness with grille light tap.
Jimmy also added v5 switchbacks but does not currently have total tails. I assume halogen bulbs in his taillights (@jm71ss please confirm). I also assume no external resistors yet, I assume he purchased the truck new since it is a 2021 and he knows the full history.

He observes hyperflashing with left or right turn signals but no hyperflashing with hazards (@jm71ss please correct me if I got this wrong). Same observation with v5 switchbacks or oem mirror signals.

I have a new harness inbound to him just to rule that out and I've requested unplugging as many things as possible to get to a known good state and then adding back connectors one by one until the problem surfaces. For the OEM LED conversion harness, the first connector is the high beam one which supplies the ground. Work one side first then the second side, the mirrors, then grille lights at the end.

Perhaps @caribe makaira has some good ideas on how best to troubleshoot as well. I'm thinking something like

    1. Possible kinked turn signal wire somewhere
    2. Possible bad harness floats ground causing hyperflash or bad crimp on turn lead (but I assume the same problem would need to be in place on both sides to match observations and it seems unlikely that a one off problem would occur in two spots)
    3. Possible external resistors somewhere?
    4. Possible LED bulbs in the taillight?
    5. Possible special truck which simply requires resistors for OEM LED to work properly?
    6. Possible confusion and mis-connection (photos of all connectors would help rule that out).

I think hyperflash was from under resistance. If it was over resistance I think they just blink once and stop working. Idk if that helps.

On my bench tester if I disconnect the turn feed to my OEM LED headlight I get the same audible hyperflash (just no output of course). But that is using a bs external flashing module which is GM branded so I have no idea how comparable it is to the flasher built in to the Tacoma. I did have to add resistors (2 of them) to get hyperflash resolved for my bench tester. I don't consider myself an expert on this topic.

My layman's understanding though is the same as yours.

Unfortunately, @jm71ss can't buy total tails as they are sold out and therefore can't go with the plug and play resistors. I could potentially give him a plug and play option on the headlights but I'd like to reach the conclusion that we need that as this would be the first instance of it being required for proper operation with an otherwise factory truck.

I wonder if the V5's will accept a Y splitter on one of the wires that allows you to choose your blinking style (solid, sequential etc), so u can add a vled resistor

Fwiw, I have retrofit headlights with switch back DRL that I use as turns. If I pull the OEM halogen from the turn bucket, I'll get hyperflash, but only on the drivers side.

just my 2c. He may have LED bulbs in the tails.
I had this issue when replacing regular bulbs with LED in my front flashers and rear tails at the same time. I just added resistors in all 4 corners to resolve.
Note, I also have the LED sequential signals in the mirrors but did not add resistors in this location.

I think meso adds resistors in his turns. Unless yours aren't mesos

So, from what I understand, @Formidable got his Pro used, it had LED turn bulbs and a lone resistor on the passenger side. Converting to LED he saw hyperflash until he removed the resistor from the circuit at which point all was well.

Which leads me to believe that too much load, in addition to too little load, can cause hyperflash. Which causes me to believe we should attempt to diagnose the root cause before assuming the solution is to add resistors.

@jm71ss could you please confirm your taillight bulb, specifically the turn signal bulb? It'd probably be ideal to have a photo bomb post with all of the lights which do any sort of flashing with turn/hazard on your truck. I suppose it's remotely possible even if you bought it new that it somehow has LED bulbs in the taillights for turn? I'd be surprised by that but I guess it is possible.

Good job brainstorming peoples, the assist is appreciated. It's gotta suck to spend $1500 on headlights and not get them working right.

I’ve heard stories of dealers swapping all the bulbs to LEDs and marking up a dealer option of ‘LED Package’ for X dollars.

    Longshot there.

    Hey guys,

I am looking for the connector that will fit this OEM switch. Only need the piece that houses the female pins that plugs into the switch and I already have the pins. The part number for the switch is 84873-60020. The numbers printed on the switch connector housing are:

    Blue part: 191816, >PA-66<

    Black part: 191572, >POM< 1

    Thank you!

Correct, I am re-purposing this switch for another use. Need the guts of this switch and will replace the switch cover from another OEM switch that is momentary instead of on-off-on. It's my little Frankenstein at this point.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but what is a good place to see P/N's and places to buy OEM connectors with pins and sockets? I'd like to do the grille lights T harness also. Thank you!
