It's sort of remarkable how the welds on a toyota frame can have loads of undercut and still look cold haha

 

The F150 fuel tank mod I mentioned I need to do!

What do yall think of cam tab gussets? yea or nay? On the one hand, I don't wheel much, on the other hand, I do bottom out on occasion.

 

Did em for @Digiratus, I dunno what conclusions we drew from them, I think he hasn't had to have an alignment since I did them from wheeling knocking them out, but they're also a PITA cause of reasons the instructions do not list. Air chisel is mandatory

 

hm no air chisel here. Leaning toward no, will post if I regret that I do have the bud built skid which seems to protect that area as well.

 

It's not a skidplate that affects this, its wheeling hard and taking impacts with the suspension. Honestly they're a good idea but a fuckload more work than you expect.

 

OOOh. I see. I was thinking it was that they were vulnerable to whacking things. Given that my truck is light and I'm pretty gentle, I'm probably good.

 

The Chicago Air and Water Show draws either the Blue Angels of the USAF Thunderbirds every year (they alternate). They like to put a few jets over the water to draw everyone's attention and then have another jet come up from behind the viewing area at full tilt. Even when you're expecting it, it's terrifying.

A few years ago we got an F-22 that was at another level beyond the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds. Even louder and even less concerned with the commonly accepted boundaries of physics.
Here in Colorado Springs I'm surrounded by military bases including the Air Force academy. There's a C-130 wing based here, so they fly over regularly. We also get C-5, F-16 and Black Hawk helicopters semi-regularly. More exotic stuff I've seen... Chinook helicopter, A-10, V-22, B-2 and B-52.

There were some fire-fighting air tankers based here last summer, too. Those are eerie to see.

 

Yeah just read through the instructions. Seems so simple, just drill some 12 rivets out, chisel out 4 plates that have been there for 20 years, pound together some gussets and new plates and weld it all up. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

 

What they don't tell you is that the gussets are almost an interference fit with the cams and welding them even slightly too hot on one side will make them pull so hard the cams wont fit haha

 

Back when I was wheeling most weekends and being fairly hard on my truck, I still never had issues with the cam tabs. Don't get me wrong there are definitely people that wheel hard enough to need them beefed up, but unless you're really going at the rocks hard (or doing fast and furious shit offroad), I don't think it's needed

 

Shit my last year of college I was wheeling so often and hard (to avoid the stress of graduating) I was throwing the alignment out every month at least, and I was even torqueing the cams to 120lbs after the alignment to try and curb it. Haven't thrown one out in a while without all 4 wheels leaving the ground.

 

Hmm. Now that you mention it, if I do crazy fast and furious desert shit, will charlize theron try to kill me? That might make it worth it.

Did them without removing LCA this time.





I couldn't get the very back washer plate in there though... hopefully not a huge problem. But I literally couldn't even get it in enough to hammer it into place.

 

Your timing on this is impeccable, need to do the same thing.
