Sort of. They also advised not to take it to a car wash for 24 hours which tells me they also added some sort of adhesive.

Silicone smeared around exterior of light followed up by a gasket on top that also goes around the light. Light isn't removed unless interior water damage is found. If interior water damage is found the light is replaced along with anything that was damaged on the interior (carpet, seats, ect). Either way (interior water damage or not) you still get silicone and a rubber gasket.

Silicone and a plastic trim piece to cover up the sloppy looking silicone job.

I got a text from my dealer about this. What's the verdict here...I have a 2017 and no leaks. Should I take it in? Do they have to pull the headliner to do this fix? Is it really a 20minute job?

Yes, they need to drop the headliner or replace the headliner if its stained and replace the 3rd brake light gasket and housing.

Ok question, so the Extra Cabs aren’t included in this recall? Only Double Cabs?

That's what is stated so far. Inspect your headliner near the back window and slider. If you see stains or water inside the rear cabin. Then you have a leak
Especially if you you run it through a auto carwash.

Ok gotcha. I’ve only had this truck for a month & I haven’t washed it yet & it never rains here in Cali either, but I’ll have to check out that area throughly. Thanks!

Its supposed to rain tonight :fistbump:
I had my brake light and headliner replaced. It was leaking for about 2 years before I noticed the large water stain across the entire back of the headliner. Good thing it doesn't rain here or it could have turned into some of the moldy interiors i saw down the south and midwest.:puke:

Dropping mine off for inspection / repair on Monday. No stains on the headliner but I have had a little water running down the back of the passesnger side rear seat when I'd tilt it to reach the storage pocket. No pools of water found in there though.

Truck is almost 6 years old, manufactured Feb 2016 so it's definitely the old gasket design.

I have gone through the car wash 10 times already since getting truck in June and no issues with water coming in around the back light. Hope it stays like that. Only time will tell as the truck ages a year or so.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
I thought mine had been leaking a bit earlier this summer, but wasn't totally sure. We had an epic rainstorm a few days ago and when I got in the truck it was puddled in the storage cubbies and the headliner was soaked. I shall call the dealer for some fixing! Thanks for posting the recall / service notice for us.

I put mine through the car wash Yesterday and we also had lots of rain this Summer no leaks yet. Maybe the newer models had that problem solved.:fingerscrossed:

Leak and mold found, on my way to pick up the rental.

EDIT: I have this for the duration, 21 SR5 4Runner.

Not going to lie, as much as I like my truck I'm going to hate giving this back. Looks like I found a replacement when the wife wants to give up her Chevy.

Took mine in for an oil change and my dealer serviced mine. Not sure if it was leaking. I'm think it was a slow day and this was a way for them to get a few extra dollars.
