One possibility is the cabin is probably a little quieter in the 3rd gens, making it easier to pick up the whine? Just a thought...

That's where you get to discuss the fact that they initially indicated it to be a problem, swapped a part and said now it isn't a problem. I went through this with my 2009, yes, this shit has been an issue for ever it seems. But my 2018 had no noise, no vibes, smooth and quiet. So is it normal, sure, but is it right, nope. As for sound deadener there was a TSB for my regular cab where the dealer added some, it helped a little but if you put sprinkles on shit it is still shit under the sprinkles. Drive a couple other trucks and see what you find and take it from there.

You could always comes to the dark side and get a Colorado ZR2..... no driveline issues but other issues... like finding the right partner, they hall have something, just what something are you willing to deal with!

Id say it is the opposite. My 12 had a lot more wind noise and such to drown it out.

I haven't tried adding any sound deadener to the cab, but others on this site have. FWIW I think my buddy's Sport is noisier than my OR (Sport's and OR's use different rear ends; the OR's use a larger Diff.)

Did you have a truck prior to buying a Taco? Just curious as trucks in general make more noise at speed then most cars do.

Yes. There is a TSB that does some work on the leafs. It is said that the issue is a harmonic vibration for the entire rear end. I can say that after getting new leaf packs, the whine in mine decrease by a lot.

    Found the TSB (attached).

    this.

ive run the gamut from 85w-140 Lucas to break in new gears, no whine. Switched to 75w-90 whine is there. Switched to 75w-110 Amsoil, no whine. The whine is barely noticeable anyways…quit whining.:D

Shim , leaf springs and rear diffwere replaced on my 17 . New diff Still made a whine but not as load around 60 mph . Put 70k on that diff and never failed or had issues . Oh and plugs were installed on the frame . There was a tsb for 16 and 17 models to have that done
