Now that we have that settled, can we try to figure out why OP refers to himself in the 3rd person?

As many others have stated, family time first. At this point it my life, time and family are far more important than money.

But I am curious about what this means: "make anywhere between 65-80k a year(it's more of a commission pay)."

What are the real numbers when you factor our commission?

    Good luck to you !

Money comes and goes. Time spent with family and friends is precious and you can't get that back.

I drove that routine for years. Told myself I wanted to live "out" for peace and quiet, so we did it. IDK if I would do it again at my age, but we love it out here, now that we're both done with the work drive. Neither of us could've done our jobs online, so nothing lost there. I see cars going to work starting at 3:30am, which gets them either of two major cities 2 hours away by 6am. So we're not the only ones.
Glad to be away from the masses these Covid days, crime's rampant, it's made people nuts, driving too fast, shooting up their cities, kids tearing up school property, no end in sight. We don't have any of that around here, schools have never stopped their regular schedules, busses, etc.
It was a chore initially learning this area, everyday life stuff, even getting decent internet. We're both older now, and with the virus everywhere, we're somewhat isolated from that at least.
Figure out what's most important to you, then do it. Life is short. Everything's a tradeoff. Happy people live longer.

We live in the country but not in the woods. She was always nervous about me making the drive. Always shootings on the interstate, wrecks. It's a big jump but I think were gonna be just fine.

A life update...during working out my notice I was offered another position at home..with a Ford and CDJR stores to be Parts Manager. Making the same I make now...even cheaper insurance. And it's actually closer that the Toyota store by a 1/4 miles lol.

Interesting topic. Sounds like you have it sorted.

I left my previous employer for different reasons. It was more of a psychological health concern…getting burned out.

It was time for a change and I don’t look back.

    Thanks for sharing your story.

I worked in a job in aviation I loved for 9 years, I left and got a job that made way more money took alot of work and school to get there. I worked that job for six years, it was terrible, the commute was aweful the work enviroment wasnt great and it took alot more time away from my family.

Recently I went back to aviation for literally half the pay, after a short while I got an opportunity to move up and life has never been happier. For me its true what they say, "do what you love and you will never work a day in your life"

Does OP like their present job? I loved selling parts at a dealership. And the money was great, and afforded me the opportunity to invest so I made even more money.
Investing includes buying and selling real estate, and is fun because it is challenging. That includes my personal home. Is the one hour drive a problem because it takes time away from your family? If it is, then kill two birds with one stone and find a good deal on a home closer to work relative to what you can make on selling your present home. Look for a house that shows badly because of cosmetic problems that can be fixed easily and make some money.
On the other hand it's nice to be close to family... Do some research and see what the job market pays for your profession in Alabama and what the cost of living is. Run the numbers. A successful person carries their success with them, but you can't carry loved relatives with deep roots with you.

Having options is great. Change creates opportunity, but only if you are willing to use it.

I like what I do, but instead of just being assistant parts manager 1/5 I will be the parts manager.

We would have toyed there idea of moving closer to my Birmingham but there is just no way.

As someone who switched from a 15 minute commute to a 45 minute commute for better compensation... not worth it! Every time I get in my truck and drive my 45 minute one-way commute it already starts my day off on a negative. Now looking for a WFH gig.

It sounds like you've already made your decision but after taxes that comes down to about $270 a month. Deduct your fuel costs and wear and tear on the vehicle and I'd take that pay cut any day for an extra two hours with my son.
