Here's some math for you all..
The Forbes 400 this year...400 richest in america...
Total Assets 1.8 Trillion dollars.
tax them at say 50% and you get 900 billion..
Take ALL of their assets and you get to reduce the debt by a whopping 6.7%....
that's right,
our debt is presently 28.4 TRILLION Dollars.
ALL the wealth in the country can cover 6.7% of that..
Taxation is a joke at this point.
Until we reduce spending there's no point in even having an income tax...
The TOTAL tax revenue for the U.S. in 2020 was 3.42 Trillion...
that means if the interest on the debt is presently 2.2% and inflation is 2.5% the money is worth less than the interest it's paying...and the dollars used to pay it are meaningless...
And there's no way to pay off the debt with taxes...ever...
The lack of reduction of spending is the culprit....
