I bought something with a feature that I am unable to use. Sure there is a workaround and I also use that workaround. I have a wireless charger on my nightstand that works just fine and I like the convenience of it. I have the same convenience in my truck, but I can't use it.

I wireless charger at home (multiple pads throughout the house) and at work. Wireless charging is something I want in a vehicle and something I thought I paid for.

The Qi charger works well with my iphone 8plus in a thin case. I just let it top off the charge and then turn it off. That keeps the heating problem at bay. I find the charger works when the phone is not centered on the pad but seated in the corner facing the passenger seat.

Some cases will not charge through. If you search Amazon for wireless charging phone case, it will work. I had to do that with my samsung. Seems the soft rubber cases charge.

Understand that those wireless charging cases only work off of alternating current and not direct current. Induction can only happen with alternating current.

Convenience, clutter, or just plain not having a car charger since the USB port isn't designed for charging.

I've read this whole thread. Does the Qi wireless charging just suck? I just got a wireless dongle for Apple carplay, so I don't have to plug my iphone SE in for Carply. And then I can just plop the phone on the Qi charger while driving. The dongle works great, but... Last night I got in the car with the phone at 50%. I drove for a little over an hour, with Carplay working (through the wireless dongle). The phone was on the Qi charger for the hour, and the little amber light was on right next to the phone. After one hour, the phone was very warm, and battery at exactly 50% (exactly where it was an hour ago). It seems like if the phone is in use (wireless carplay) the charger provides just enough power to keep the battery at the same level.

So my assumption is if the phone is not doing anything, the Qi charger provides a bit of a trickle charge. But if the phone is working (wireless carplay) the Qi charger has just enough charge to not let the battery level go down, but not enough to increase the battery level.

Does that sound like a good summary? If so I'm super disappointed and returning the wireless dongle :(

The Qi charger does what it was designed to do....keep your burrito warm.

Has anyone tried the aftermarket fix? Did it work?

Works better than the OEM. It still overheats the phone and will stop charging, but it will go back to charging once the phone cools down some.
