15-passenger Ford van hiding behind some buses; In those weather conditions, I'm hoping it has the limited-slip rear differential!

This same guy spotted a couple of late model (at the time) Dodges; Seeing as this was 2015, that silver Durango was no older than four years old at the time...

The Dakota appears to be about a 2009-2011 model, so it was not that old either...

A roughly 1992-1993 Chevy Cheyenne K2500 that seems to be some sort of government/public works vehicle, has likely been in Utqiagvik it's whole life, and appears to have held up remarkably well despite being used as a fleet vehicle in one of the harshest environments in the United States!

    2C2CA9C4-3475-4295-9BFE-79642D07C8F5.jpg

I mentioned above that since Utqiagvik is so so isolated from the rest of Alaska and there is no way to access it by road from the rest of the state (or Canada, I'm pretty sure), combined with the fact that Utqiagvik is not particularly large, this truck likely has ridiculously low miles despite being over 20 years old at the time; Since it is a base model likely ordered new for use in the Northernmost census-designated place in the US, it would would be safe to say that it likely was not ordered with A/C! Hell, since there's probably not much in the way of radio this far north, I'm guessing this truck left the factory with the base AM radio as well! It does not appear to have a plow mount, so I'm guessing it was spared from the harsh reality of snow removal duty; I'm also guessing that it was ordered with the automatic transmission to make sure that government employees who do not know the art of the third pedal could drive it... :D

And what do we have here? Another Ford Escape! I believe the truck on the right is a Dodge/Ram...

A lot of gen 1s with bad frames were bought back by Toyota and owners were offered a discount on new truck.

You are not factoring in inflation. For shits and giggles I put 17K in an online inflation calculator and got a 2021 total of $21,327.00

Frame may not be as much of issue in Alaska depending upon whether or not they use salt. Anyone know? My guess they live with it as is.

That actually makes sense because the DCSB 6-lug and AC 6-lug we're both available with either the 2.7L or the 4.0L, and the X-Runner makes eleven; However, a shop dropped a Tundra 5.7L in an AC 5-lug for SEMA, and I don't recall reading that it was particularly difficult to do the shop. I would think that all the frames are the same and the only difference was a couple of easily interchangeable crossmembers...?

Which is way more than the MSRP of my truck when it was new!

Yes, but inflation is not a good thing.

And Alaska does not have state-mandated annual or biannual safety inspections either; Also, in 2005 a brand new 5-lug RC with a manual transmission and no A/C was less than $14K!

I know this; In 1992, my dad bought a brand new Dodge Dakota LE extended cab with the V6, 5-speed manual, A/C, cruise, tilt, and stereo cassette for like $11,000; Not even 20 years later he paid almost $4,000 more for a Tacoma with an automatic transmission and A/C, but two fewer cylinders and nowhere near the amount of options the Dakota had...

Damn I wish you still had that thing, love the old stuff. They weren't necessarily boys or girls though, the 80s bikes and scooters usually had a wild colour to pick from.

SE didn't make many of them so that would be a huge collector's item.

    What bike did you have??

I have no freakin' idea what the one gifted to me by my cousins was; It was light blue, yellow, and pink with the colors fading into each other, and it had a basket on it. The basket was disposed of and my uncle painted it green; The only way you could tell it was girls' was because of the frame design...

I'm guessing it was a Huffy or a Schwinn, or more than likely the manufacturer either doesn't exist anymore or was bought out by another bigger manufacturer...?

My new bike that my parents bought me in 1996 was a "Tech 290"; That's all I remember about the name, and I had it until 2000 when my parents bought me a larger 18-speed bike. The Tech 290 was chrome-look with blue accents if I remember correct and it did not have handlebar brakes; It had the old school system where you reverse the pedals to stop. That was a good bike, but I ended up tearing it apart after getting the new bike and giving what was left to a neighborhood girl to build a go-kart...

And for those who don't know, the different between the frame of a boys' bike and a girls' bike is very well illustrated in the picture below; The girls' bike is the blue one at the top, and as you can see there is quite a difference in the frame design...

    7CC19FD9-3A57-466F-B218-2D249112CC64.jpg

The bike that my uncle painted green for me had a "girl" frame, but as stated above it was a solid bike, it was free, and I really didn't give a shit!

Yup, I have a banana seat bike with ape hangers that has the girl's frame. I ride it proudly with not a single fuck.

No Googling..can you tell me why they made the frames different?
