The reason why I was more OK with shelling out for a high-end battery is sometimes I'm really far away from civilization and the truck absolutely must work.

If that's not you I would go for a cheap ass battery for sure.

It's probably gonna still fail 2 years from now randomly like a cheap battery would if I'm being real, but at least I can get a new one for free if it does.

It's funny when you realize only three companies make batteries they're all just rebranded

You sure about that? Isn't the warranty on most batteries pro-rated?

I called Pep Boys because they sold me my Bosch battery and I self installed it in my mk5 R32 and they provided great service on the purchase because it ended up being replaced under warranty.

That said when I called Pep Boys a few mins ago they said some nonsense about not doing retail sales anymore.

So I ordered it on their website for pick up at my local store, and it appears to have been accepted. So that being said, if all goes well, I'll be picking up a Champion with a 30 month warranty shortly! $150 out the door including core charge.

Typing this as I watch Texas CHOKE. My God Texas.

I just put one of those Wally World EverStart Max batteries in my truck about a week ago. Time will tell!

Yeah ive had mine a couple weeks now too. It replaced a 6 year old battery from canadian tire.

I'm pretty sure battery longevity has less to do with the pedigree and more to do with how its treated, for the most part.

Have you tried to contact the dealer for a battery replacement ? Pretty sure it’s covered under warranty still only being 2 years old .

Not dealing with most batteries and warranty through the battery maker, dealing with Batteries Plus stellar customer support, and a 300+$ odyssey battery. They offered the same warranty (full replacement) + 2 years over the 5 year warranty X2 I was looking for. So 7 years full replacement through batteries plus.

FWIW, every 5 years I just go to my to my local, independent auto parts store (decent folk, they don't sell junk, just not worth the bother). I tell them what size I need and ask for whichever battery in that size that has the highest CCA rating (it gets cold around here). Prices are comparable to anywhere else. Been doing that for 25+ years. Never been stranded anywhere, never had to ask anyone for a jump.

I'm told the 5 years rule-of-thumb doesn't work in hot climates. Batteries don't like high temperatures.

I think so too. I was surprised a little that the battery in my wifes Tacoma went out so soon but figure the truck was purchased in the first month or so in 2014, so almost a year with little to no use. Same with my 2017 it sits for month at a time or driven once a month.
I have one of those Walmart AGM for my Wrangler sitting on a bench. That vehicle sits a bunch too, and I noticed after a couple weeks of sitting it wasn't cranking vigorously.
    Cranking vigorously

Best trick in the book is to put a maintainer on when you’re not using them long term.

I actually bought one when I purchased the battery for the Jeep and had one already for my Tacoma. Just haven't put them in:anonymous:
