Painting Fenders With Bed Liner

Recently I crashed my taco into a pole. I ended up denting up my passenger side front fender pretty badly, but managed to hammer it out and get it back to shape. Since I'm unwilling to fork over the cash to have the fender color-matched to my truck I've decided to do both the front fenders with bed liner.
What product would you guys recommend? I've hear that the dupi-color spray can bed liner isn't worth a shit, but im not sure if one of the roll on BL would work well.

 

Why not buy a fender and a shake up can of paint and not devalue the truck.

I wouldn't mind painting it myself but I can't find imperial jade mica anywhere. If I could get my hands on some of that paint I would defiantly go that route instead.

 

Has anyone bought any paint from Paint Scratch dot com? If I were to go this route I would buy a pint or quart of imperial jade mica and clear from them and spray it myself. I'm just worried about how closely it will match.

 

Duplicolor has it in shake up cans, O reillys auto if you have one where you live, if not get your paint code and so a search for who sells it in your area, its not the best paint but better than notheing.

 

I took a trip up to Autozone earlier but they didn't have it. They had rustoleum stuff but not in my color. My paint code is 6Q7. I'll order that fender from DBP like you suggested and in the meantime continue my search for the paint. I appreciate your help.

 

Personally, I have a HUGE fan of Herculiner. I have used it on damn near everything possible from my truck to my horse trailer. Works great and lasts.

 

Pull your fender and your paint code and have a shop shoot it for you. If you smooth it and prep it for them it should be cheap. Find a smaller shop ~ not a big chain and if they price you out (too ^^^ $$$) ask if anyone there offers side work.

I recently stopped by a shop locally and had them mix me up 3 oz. for a scratch repair on a 1991. I was able to match the red and fill it with base coat enough to hide the damage. Base with no clear is semi soft and can be used as a light scratch filler.

Last year I had a set of 2004 fenders, hood, and under headlight eye brows shot BLACK to match my 1999.



On the other note ~ Prep is key with the bed liner. I had an 83 Hi-Lux shot entirely with Permatex brand bedliner. It was great.

Also our local parts store will mix you paint to match your code in any amount you want. ~ A pint should do a fender.

 

the dupli color bed liner really isnt that bad......its all about prep and how many coats you put on.

 

I would also buy a fender and have it sprayed professionally. If not, there is a guy on ebay that sells every color paint for toyota in a rattle can. I don't think bedliner is the best route, yet I have seen a lot of cools things here done with it.

having a shop shoot the fender is a good idea check around at some shops its expensive, if nothing else buy the fender, apply some good primer, edge it out with the duplicolor ( paint the inside of fender thats under the hood and behind grille area, you get the idea ) then install and adjust it, when you get the money have a shop shoot the outside.

 

Thanks for all the replies. I ordered the fender and it should be in tomorrow. I also found out that one of our family-friends has an auto body shop so i'll prolly end up talking to him about the color match.
