no time frame no but the only thing i liked about the toyota was the manual the ranger and frontier beat it on everything else that i was looking for plus the other two will get better mpg then the tacoma easily

the other big plus is that both the frontier and ranger have disc brakes in the rear while the tacoma is drum in the rear still wish toyota would finally do away with that

I seriously doubt the Ranger and Frontier can clock 26 regularly. Maybe..... But I doubt it.

90% of your braking is done with the fronts. Plus parking brake via drum > parking brake via drive line collar

Know what the big heavy haulers use?

    Drums.

I personally really enjoyed not having to change my drums or shoes until ~260k in the car, when suddenly it sounded like a fucking whale was moaning every time I hit the brakes, because I'm a woman and things in my car don't get fixed until it makes a noise or expels a liquid.

Don't drum brakes typically last longer due to more surface area and less heat generation (if you aren't over-zealous with them)?

I know there have to be other pros and cons but that's all I can really think of.

Its all cost and design. Either style can work fine.

I've never touched the discs on the back of my frontier in 160,000 miles. Rear brakes don't get nearly as much abuse as the fronts.

I’ve always hated drums it’s old shit and needs to go but Toyota is being a cheap ass about it

Couldn’t tell you on that I know people that own the ranger and they average (since lifted and larger tires) 21-23mpg which last time I checked any tacoma that gets 33s goes down to 15….

It ain’t no heavy hauler it’s a truck almost every vehicle has disc rear these days besides the tacoma because Toyota is Toyota

And nooooo you don’t say that the front does most of the braking I never knew! Psh

Number of times I’ve had a problem with drums = 0
Number of times I’ve had issue with disc = 5+

drums on the rear are totally fine, old or not.
