Get a compression test done, check PCV valve. Could be valve stem seals also.

Some UV dye and a black light will confirm if you have an oil leak/seep or not.

I wouldn't go that far; Is that like Shell Rotella diesel oil or something?

Maybe that will slow consumption but it won't fix the problem

I don’t think there’s any “diesel oil”, it’s just a heavier grade of oil is all.

More additives than oil for gas engines.

FWIW....you are creating your own set of worries.

Just put in 1 quart of your favorite oil. Run the truck as normal. Begin checking oil level at every fill of fuel. Build a history of the oil consumption.

Any engine will consume some oil. The age of your truck the "consumption" could be due to a number of things, ie: normal, gasket weeping, burning when engine is cold, ...... A normal culprit is the valve cover gasket leaking a little into the spark plug wells. Although, I doubt if the this location would hold a quart.

A bit of knowledge about the "steam on start up". This is normal. One of the many products of combustion is water. When the hot/humid exhaust hits the cold air beyond the tailpipe, the water vapor will condense to look like steam. All normal.

Good Luck......try to relax a bit.

Your world isn't ending because of a bit of oil consumption. You could convert over to an EV, then oil consumption will be a past worry.

Using some oil at 140k is pretty normal in my opinion. Your way over thinking this.

Y'know, regardless of how minor of an issue that this may be, good on you for doing your due diligence and keeping a close eye on your truck.

Just don't panic when you see something off. :p

I just checked the jug of it I have in my garage and it does say Diesel engine oil on it. Didn’t know that, learn something new every day.

Burning a gallon of gas produces a gallon of water so some water vapor is normal.

I picked up a pcv valve for $7 as the dealership recommended for mine at 112k they wanted $70 to replace. I laughed. A ten minute job. It would be worth it . When my shoulder is healed from surgery I will do it. A bad PCV valve can cause problems in that regard my $.02

I’ve always thought the high mileage oil and the oil that’s good for 10k was a croc of shit.

So quick way to find out if its bad or normal oil burning.

Take the oil cap off while its running, if you can actually see the gases, its fucked. Also if its louder than a slight purr, its likely piston rings carboned up. If its quiet and no pressure is escaping, than its valve seals. Simple.

You are using a good oil choice, but 5W30 would be more ideal, 10W30 is obsolete and there's no reason to run it anymore. It doesn't burn any less than 5w30, it just makes it harder to start in the cold.

Need to detail that motor id bet you have an oil leak that isn’t dripping on the ground and you can’t see it for all that grime.

    How loud is it?

Try and compare the sound to a known good vehicle.
