Not really loud at all; To be honest my engine doesn't much different now than when the truck was new. If I had to guess, I'd say it started using oil between 100K and 120K...

Then I wouldnt likely worry about it until you see smoke from the exhaust.

Good thing you keep an eye on stuff like that.

Interesting.....I can't see gases either. Gases have a tendency to invisible. I've never seen O2, or N2, or CO2, or Ar, or H2........

Hey, the best feature of my truck is that it was a gift and I thus don't have payments; I've got a clear title in my name, and while I have good credit I've got my eye on a much bigger prize than a new truck and don't want payments...

That prize is a down payment on a house, and I need this truck to last at least another six to eight years in order to make that dream a reality; The fact that I'm getting a new frame for free is a total godsend!

Didn't you or someone else say "if you can see the gasses, it's fucked"?

    ^^

With bad engines like the Toyota 2.4 you'll actually see and hear the combustion escaping.

    2.7 isn't known for it.

Maybe once the truck is in the shop getting the new frame you just sidle in and slip the tech a benjamin: “hey brother, mind replacing the engine while you’re in there?”

It was not me that made such statement. Someone else has claim to that.

Lets think about the claim for a moment.

The oil cap normally is in a valve cover. Not close to or connected to exhaust. At most, you may see some oil mist inside that valve cover. IMHO, not a good indicator of any problems.

My independent mechanic can do an engine replacement for $3,500 using a low-mileage engine for a totaled truck, and I'm hoping I don't have to think about that until at least 250K miles...

Are you talking about the 2.4L in the 1st Gen Tacos? I thought those were merely underpowered but still very reliable...?

Also, the truck was recently compression tested and checked out fine; It runs great and the utterly atrocious gas mileage I get around town is my only complaint right now.

No, the 2.4 in Camry and Rav4. They are so bad Toyota had a service campaign on oil consumption.

Best company in the world for sure :)
