They’ve already done that. That’s why it’s reviewed so heavily. They’ve truly been overturning a lot of targeting calls this season.

but let’s all mention the real underlying issues. Dumb asses who tackle with their head down. Stop doing that and the problem goes away lol

There has been recent discussion to take another look at the rule. And yes, intentionally targeting with the head down would still call for an ejection. But these "shit happens" plays that still fit the definition technically and were in no way still cause a lot of unnecessary ejections.

I’ve seen very few of those if any this year. Last night was a great example, 3? Targetings were overturned in the Bama Tamu game. I think I saw 2 overturned in the LSU Kentucky game too.

But they are there. I've seen increased discussion about it over the course of several games I've tuned into in the last few weeks.

If you could show a “shit happens” where they reviewed and upheld and ejection on one that wasn’t targeting, I don’t think there has been one this year.

“If” Auburn would have caught all the passes they dropped yesterday UGA would not be happy today WTF.
Bama had the same issue not being able to catch :bananadead:

I'm not sure about that with Auburn. It may have been more interesting but still probably not enough. I knew the OL was going to be a prob this year but when the qb runs 15-20 yards behind the LOS (where he can't see the rest of his team bc they're to his back) trying to play hero ball/home run on every play I just don't know what to say. Receivers didn't help him out any but Georgia's defense is elite and pretty much did to Auburn what I thought they were gonna do.

Here is a scary scenario that my friend and I were discussing last night.

If Texas A&M can end up winning out somehow and... say maybe Auburn... could beat Bama in the Iron Bowl ( in Auburn this year)... they could be the West representative in the SEC Championship Game.

Also... if by some freak chance Kentucky can find a way to beat Georgia next week we could have them representing the East.

It's slim but we could be looking at a Aggie/Wildcat Championship this year.

    2021 is strange year.

I cannot remember any specific games off hand but there were 2 or 3 that I had tuned into and such a case had occurred causing the announcers to begin discussing having the rule looked at again.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
They were talking about this on game day. They need to have a system where the mandatory ejection and game off is reviewed in itself. If it's fully intentional and meant to cause harm, ejection. Something silly like the above, or both the runner and tackler lowered... Let them play

I fully believe that’s targeting, and also fits in the category of “tackling like a dumbass”. Not only did he lead with helmet, and hit the other guys helmet, but he also “launched” as they say. And he didn’t even have the ball. Basically textbook targeting even if it wasn’t the most forceful. And just a stupid way to tackle.

Cant recall & to lazy to look..

Does a player that has a targeting penalty still have to sit out the following half/qrtr of their next game?

Aware they no longer have to leave the game, just not sure about the above?

Excited to see the progress that this young NIU team is making. We have 12 freshmen starting on our starting 22 and are still one of the youngest teams in the country with 76% of the roster being freshmen. We are 4-2 after going 0-6 during the shortened 2020 college season (with a ton of true freshmen playing) and started off the schedule going on the road and beating Georgia Tech. NIU's losses are to undefeated Michigan and 4-1 Wyoming (which scored a TD with 2 mins remaining).

Kind of hard to count that loss to Michigan against NIU since it was such a mismatch, intentionally. Even if Michigan had a loss or two, it's still nothing for a team like NIU to be ashamed of.
