It is Sunday, no need to beat yourself up, plenty will do that for us throughout the week. All great points that you listed and I completely agree.

$46 a month. Full coverage. Pay 6 months at once for a discount.

    250k/500k liability caps.

$500 collision and comp deductibles. No add on bullshit like rental car or towing.

I have zero tickets or accidents ever. Mid 30s. Not married, no multi vehicle or bundle discounts. Payed cash for the truck.

Many factors, including the above. Insurance companies buy insurance called re-insurance to pay some if not most of their claims. That re-insurance market has dried up. Classic inflation for the insurance companies: too much money chasing too few goods (re-insurance), raising the price of re-insurance. Re-insurance is a pass-through cost. Guess who it gets passed through to? The reinsurance market has dried up BECAUSE of inflation: Those oligarchs and investment consortiums blessed with the kind of cash that can cover this kind of risk are remiss to tie the cash up in treaties with the insurance companies because of too much uncertainty of the near future. They play it safe and do what classic economists recommend when inflation approaches: hang on to your cash and keep your powder dry. Hence, less re-insurance, higher price paid by the companies that can afford it, and ultimately, shit rolls down hill.

Too damn much! about 30% more because of those who drive without insurance or are under-insured. Something than can be fixed but is ignored because it would cost a person their job - that requires sitting in an Ivory Office and wearing a suit to work every day.

How could you possibly get that low of a rate with such high coverages?

What’s your thoughts on all these ads for ridiculous low rates? Is it just very low coverage?

I got offered a discount to swap to nationwide having a Toyota and it seems cheaper than State Farm who I’ve been with for years and much high coveragesz

Seeing a lot of good Geico rates. I might’ve told this story before, oh well: had a ticket that caused my premiums to rise with USAA, about 5 years ago. Also had an improper equipment ticket that was about 3.5 years old.

The quote from Geico came back significantly higher than USAA. 20% maybe. The rep told me it was because they go back 5 years on the driving record and include improper equipment tickets. USAA (and every other normal company I’ve ever dealt with) goes back 3 years and only cares about moving violations that incur points.

So the Geico rep says, “well, shall we go ahead and move forward with this policy?”

I said, “you gotta be shitting me,” and hung up.

    Bastards.

    I'm paying $894 a year for my 2020 Tacoma and 2009 camper
that is with erie insurance in pennsylvania. I'm single, male, 47, no tickets in years, one claim in 3 years under the surcharge amount.
I have full coverage with 500 collision and 250 comprehensive deductibles 100,000/300,000 Liability, the same with uninsured and underinsured coverage, rental reimbursement coverage and I have a camper covered for comprehensive and collision. the camper is around $30 of that so it costs very little of that total.

I've shopped around for insurance every year and no one in my area can seem to beat what I pay with Erie for my home and auto insurance. some were nearly twice as much.

Yeah And I've had to make an Auto and homeowners claim together after an ice storm in Feb 2014 brought a tree down. their claims service was actually decent too. One thing is they will drop you for frequent claims I guess that is how they keep costs low.
