The normal noises the engine makes are noticeably louder when the cap is removed, but not by much...

Frame's getting replaced under the recall at the end of this year (just waiting for the new frame to arrive); You think the dealer would clean the engine for me...? :D

if you pay them to detail it. They don’t remove the engine from the Bay Area when they replace the frame.

I wasn’t but now am a believer in the battery post felt pads. I saw them somewhere for less than 3 bucks so I tried them. I haven’t had to touch my terminals since. I’ve been looking for more for vehicles I maintain at work, all I’ve seen is the 50 pack on Amazon.

    How many miles between changes?

Try a 5w or 10w-40 on your next summer change.

my last battery for my Honda came with a set, not sure where else to get them either but they definitely work! 50 will last a lifetime as long as you don’t forget where you put them

Just driving it; I don't know tow with it, and I certainly don't abuse it. Since June 2021, it's been almost entirely highway miles...

Using one quart every 3000-5000 miles is considered normal. Most manufacturers don't consider it a problem until you get to 1 quart every 1000 miles.

Granted MOST modern engines use much less. We have gotten spoiled and think there is a problem when three isn't one.

Also, this year the front brakes (Everything; Calipers, pads, and rotors, plus the system was bled and flushed, and the fluid was replaced) are brand new; I probably have less than 10,000 miles on the front brakes...

Rear brakes have a little over 20K on them...?

The tires are also practically brand new, with maybe 8,000 miles on them...?

Coolant was flushed and replaced in the last 10,000 miles...

Rear diff fluid was flushed and replaced back in 2019, is full synthetic, and is good until 160K...

Frame, as you know, is getting replaced under recall at the end of this year; Brake lines, gas lines, and control arms are getting replaced as well under the recall...

Water pump will be getting replaced when the frame is replaced due to the age and mileage of the truck, because it is easier to access when the truck is disassembled...

Shock absorbers, cab bushings, and engine mounts will also be getting replaced when the frame is replaced, again due to the age and mileage of the truck, and ease of access during the frame replacement...

When I get the truck back from the frame replacement, I'd like to think that I'll basically have a brand new truck, and that the engine will be good for at least another 100K miles before anything major needs to be done.

I don’t know if you’ve seen the way the dealership replaces the frame but there will be no easier access to water pump replacement, the engine stays with the cab.

Also, with the obvious exception of this oil consumption issue, the front brakes squeaking a lot when pedal is applied while going in reverse, and the fact that the aftermarket Bluetooth phone system only works when it feels like it, my truck is in perfect working order...

    • Runs and drives great!
    • Just passed both emissions test and safety inspection with flying colors this past August (I live in Pennsylvania).
    • No electrical issues whatsoever.
    • ICE COLD A/C (heat works great too).
    • All inside and outside lights work perfectly.
    • No steering or alignment issues.

The truck has a few minor shakes and rattles that one would expect from any vehicle this old with this many miles, but as my truck currently sits I would trust it to make a trip from here to California tomorrow, as long as I brought a jug of oil along :D

A lot of people on here have been telling me to replace the water pump; What gives! Why is the service manager at Thompson telling me the A/C refrigerant has to be evacuated? If the engine and mechanical components stay with the cab, why does the HVAC system have to be touched? Seems kind pointless in my opinion...
