Beekeeping it’s the bee’s knees

If you can get some wax and melt it and roll it on the frames with a foam roller, the ladies will build it out faster. Just got done with 10 of them took me 10 lb of wax. Had to buy it but worth every penny.

 

You can sell splits? To pay for the habit….. I meant hobby

Just got done pulling honey, got 120lb of honey, or 10 gallons was biggest pull to date, pulled 4 hives and got 4 more to do next week.

nah, lotsa honey this year but besides that nothin out of the ordinary or worth showing off. Good problems i guess

 

Seems like a good place to ask. I spotted what looks like a typical bumblebee in our flower garden, but it as a very elongated abdomen. Tried to get a pic or two, but he/she wouldn't stay in place log enough. Any thoughts what it might be. No pun intended.

 

Could be a carpenter bee, there are a lot of native bee, @rtkbowhunter

 

A swarm landed on my door step, instead of having them removed I decided to keep them and try something I’ve always wanted to. Unfortunately they became a small queen-less colony. I was wanting to buy a new colony and start fresh but I was just informed that the place we are moving to has HOA laws that restrict livestock, from my research bees are considered live stock… I still want to buy a colony but I’m not sure what to do now..
Freaking HOA is bs.

also a jar of honey here and there keeps the pesky neighbors friendly

Are those bees all thats left of that swarm? If there's a little more you could buy a queen for them. Maybe a local apiary could even give you a good deal on a frame or two of bees and a queen so you don't have to completely start over

 

A lot of places try , but if you call the local Florida apiary inspector for you area they may help with the local hoa.

 

Thanks for the tips, there is maybe double the bees of what’s pictured on the frames. They are much smaller than the original swarm.
Been thinking of how I could hide them from others. Nice neighbors could definitely get some honey

I actually spoke to one yesterday and she suggested I find out what is going on with the HOA rules. My next option is to reach out to a local farmer and see if he/she wouldn’t mind keeping one box on their property somewhere. Bees would help their crops and I’d give them some honey in return

I have two backyard colonies. Did formic pro treatment in Sept. Feeding 2:1 syrup pushing them to fill a super for the winter. Bought 2 BeeCozi to wrap them. This is my 1st year. I'll be happy if they survive the winter. Didn't harvest any honey

 

I ended up buying a nuc full of bees from my local beekeeper because I sent them pictures and they said that the colony I had was dying and queen-less. I’ve had them for about two months now and they have been filling out the new frames. I actually added a super about three weeks ago because 7/10 frames were full.

 

Just pulled the fall honey, time for farmers market
