I don't use the air conditioning very often as I don't drive very far but I did notice it was making a lot more noise earlier this summer. Like whooshing/wheezing off and on like every 3-5 second not ac clutch or blower related. And now thinking back maybe it wasn't as cold as it used to be. But I was reading about the Darth Vader noise (sounded more on the passenger side) so I figure maybe I just didn't notice it before. Yesterday I was on the interstate and went to turn on the AC and now it just make a constant shhhhhh noise (sounds more centered behind the radio) and the air never changed temperature. I have had the timing cover redone and wonder if something was incorrect upon reassembly. But it's been like 20 months since it was done. I maybe used the ac 10 times since then. So I am on the hook for this and needing advice on things I can troubleshoot. This is a CPO Toyota with that warranty but I doubt it covers AC.
Honestly if I new trucks were in stock, I'd probably trade it in. Less than 6 years old and only 53k miles and between the TC, BSM failure and now AC failure, it's pretty disappointing. Good thing it looks great. Anyway thanks for any help.

There’s a service bulletin on the squirrel cage blower fan - maybe look for that first?

Blower is working fine. Just no change in temperature.

I just read though the service manual and not sure now if this needs to be fixed asap or if I can wait till next year. Manual makes it sound like I can damage things even when not using the ac due to the compressor always spinning with the motor. IDK

If you use the defrost mode you are also running the compressor- I would get it checked if it was mine.

Should be a pressure sensor on the compressor, no pressure, no clutch. But yeah I wouldn't run it like that lol.

I didn't notice any flashing ac button light. I can just hear the whooshing noise kick in with the button and no cold air. Not really sure how I can check the clutch. Maybe I will be able to tell if its working at idle with the rpms moving.

Could this be a blend door issue?

Don't think so. I was able to get heat and switch back just fine this morning.

I can tell the clutch is working cause in park the idle jumps up when the AC button is on.

No more Vader noises and blowing 48 degrees. Just in time for winter lol. We shall see how long it lasts but for less than 50 bucks it worth a shot.

You can put a dye in and see where it is leaking.
