Serves you right, letting someone else drive your truck. ;)

Agreed. New boot it looks like, too - what did you use for the grommet?

    Charity work.... :)
Yes, new boot. I don't wanna talk about why.. lol. Collar came from etsy shop TrailerbreakerCustoms. I originally tried the rubber grommet in OEM collar thing and I didn't like it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The rubber grommet is why I'm asking.

One of these days I'm going to dechrome my Tacoma. Or at the very least, get the prescription for my sunglasses updated.

    So. Many. Stickers.
I let exactly one other person drive my truck, and he's a good friend and a master mechanic. Get too Antsy with other people driving, especially on a clutch that I paid for :D

Yeah I only let 2 people drive my truck and I cringed everytime they drove, even though they know how to drive a manual. Never again.

I don't know if someone else has stated this, because I did not read through all the replies.

    However...

I sold, demoed, owned several Toyota for over a decade prior to 2013. And being a current 3rd gen m/t owner over 3 yrs... I can tell you as annoying, frustrating, aggravating as the clunkyness of the 3rdgen MT is...

It doesn't get better... you get better at driving it.... and some days you don't... the clunky nature is part of who it is. Make or call it what you will.

Learn to float gears, and be soft and slow on the start stop clutching. That's all I can say. It helps but doesn't fix it. It is a clunky platform BUT reliable.

It may clunk.... but I have seriously beat the eff out of it... been up trails and locations I have no business being. Following jeeps and stacked offroad rigged up money pits and it has never broken/stranded/or failed to winch a friend from a predicament.

So while half of me says, no... sell it... your ocd won't let you daily this truck... the other half says trust it regardless.

Just my 2 cents from my experience with it. It's frustrating and has an attitude, but exceeds my expectations constantly.

I love it most days but some days i'm like wtf... thought I figured this out. Like sometimes shifting is smooth as butter and other times it's poop. But good days outweigh the bad and it's pretty fun either way. :D

Been driving a manual for 50+ years and I sometimes still clunk it. Just drive it and grab the next gear... Nice shifter ball !

Chances are the truck's behavior isn't changing from day to day, so if the two of you are having poopy days... Well...

There's no real replacement for being in the cab with someone learning to drive a manual.

Here's a thought: If you're having problems with something, get a video camera (or a versatile mount for your phone, whatever) and make a video, with audio. Upload to somewhere and post a link here and maybe someone could diagnosis the problem. Feet, right hand, and if possible the tach would be most helpful to see in the frame. Do make comments in the video about what you think isn't right when it happens.

    Again, just a thought.

Yeah, i'm not blaming the truck. I do notice my clutch feels different based on temperature though. A lot more stiff when it's cold. Also have to find the sweet spot for how i'm sitting.. IDK. Depends on the day. Sometimes even time of day.. like worse in the morning and then good on my way home.
But i'm constantly striving for that dopamine hit from a good flawless shift lol

You're building up those leg muscles. My left leg is twice the size of my right... Hahaha. I suppose I could mash the gas a bit harder and even them up a bit...

Clutch is going to be a bit stiffer on cold mornings, but that should go away once the engine compartment heats up. It's mostly due to the viscosity of the hydraulic fluid. Happens with brakes, too, though you might not notice that as much. On REALLY cold mornings, that clutch pedal is going to be slow to return to it's normal position.

If you don't mind me asking... How tall are you and what do you weigh (roughly speaking, lb, Kg or Stone accepted)?

I have an 18 OR and I do not feel like my truck has that "hill holding" you guys are talking about. Soon as I engage the clutch, I start rolling back.

You have to depress both the clutch AND brake pedals for some short period of time for the hill holding to engage. I also read somewhere there's a button-pushing sequence that turns it off.

    I wouldn't know if the OR does/doesn't have hill-holding.

Wow, sucks but it's also good that I learn not to rely on a system like that. I too learned to drive manual on my Yota.
