Can anyone compare these to a Kenda Klever RT? In my size they are the exact same weight but the Maxxis is about $30 more per tire. They both seem to be in the same performance category and punching above their price points so I don’t think I’ll go wrong either way. I ride dirt bikes so I don’t have any qualms about running a Maxxis or a Kenda on my truck too. However Maxxis has been in the truck tire biz longer and seem to have a little more technology going into their tires. Or at least their marketing makes it seem that way.

Here is the Kenda I’m referring to.

If they would have made them in a 16, I would have given them a closer look, but they don't. They also only come in LT. I really wanted to stick with the lighter SL rating to save on mileage, ride quality and wear and tear. I've put LTs on Tacoma's before and never again.

But they look fantastic. I love the new hybrid thing. Hopefully with more middleweights we'll see more SL AT tire options in the future.

I hope we do get more SL options. I just saw the Razr AT comes in a 275/60r20 SL at only 43.5 lbs. that’s crazy light for a tire over 33”. Not really relevant for Tacoma’s but nice to see them answering the call for full size truck guys too.

Coming up on first rotation, still solid. Looking forward to snow traction this winter.

Just got back from a ~3k mile trip. Went though some serious rain & storms, including some heavy bursts when driving 70-80mph & mountain roads. No hydroplaning or issues whatsoever - I’m still very impressed by the tires. Unfortunately the snow got there a couple days after we left, but hopefully will get a chance to drive them in some powder soon.

Anybody had any constant balancing issues with these? Looking to get a set but my local shop is advising against it due to the amount of balancing and vibration from being slightly out of balance that they see. Thanks!

I ordered mine from SimpleTire and had them installed by Evan’s Tire (in Encinitas, CA). As soon as I got on the highway I noticed a bad vibration, and took it back the next day. They confirmed the tires were improperly balanced and re-did a balance. That second job was much better, but still had a minor vibe. I had the Toyota dealership (Mossy in Mission Bay, CA) re-balance and they’re great now. I’ve seen other folks in this thread say their tires didn’t need a lot of weight - I still think it was just a crappy install place I had issues with.

That's great to hear, gives me hope! I think I'll just have to send it and if I need a few extra balances here and there so be it

Even though I had balance issues (I still believe it was the crappy shop) I would absolutely buy them again. I’m getting the same/better mpg than factory wranglers, low road noise (close to stock), and they work great in every condition I’ve been in so far. Super happy with them.

I also have the installer index the yellow Dot on the side-wall to the valve stem.
Also folks claim it’s good to go to a shop that has the option for road/force balancing if it comes to that. I’ve also heard that some shops automatically road/force them.
Mine showing the tire indexed to the valve stem:

Hell yea that's awesome! They look like an awesome tire and I am excited to give them a go. Knowing that it is possible to have balance issues I think will allow me to be patient and understanding if it does occur. Once you got your rebalance they have been dialed since? How many miles since the rebalance?

What is the purpose/benefit of indexing the dot to the valve stem?

Mine have been great and I was impressed by how little weight they needed, but a lot of shops don't know about indexing the dot to the valve stem. This is critical to motorcycle tires, but less common with car tires.

Like others have said, for my use case, this tires have been awesome. Consistently over 20mpgs, great in all conditions...

I talked my buddy into them and he claimed they were terrible in the wet, but that has not been my experience. I've had them in some serious downpours and I thought they were fine.

Anyone know what the future holds for these tires in 265/75/16?

Not at all my experience. Maybe he had the mud versions and not the AT?

I'm trying to decide between the

    2857017 43.6 lbs 32.6 inches tall, 11.22 wide

    2657017 39.8lbs 31.8 inches tall, 10.43 wide

    Cooper AT3 4's 2657516 41lbs 31.6 inches tall, 10.43 wide

I'm leaning towards the 285. Coming from 2657616 Cooper AT3 4's at 41lbs will these drag the truck down or am I overthinking it? I have a 2.5 inch lift and UCA's. Any concern about cab mount chop?? Thanks all!
