    **Dorset Cave Update**
I wanted to give everyone an update about the Dorset caves. I was on the Dorset Select Board meeting last night where they were discussing the future of the Freedley Quarry and Legal Trail 6. On that call, two representatives from Tread Lightly were on the meeting proposing solutions to keep the trial open for both hikers and wheeled off-roading. The town seemed open to keeping the trail open if they can partner with outside groups to help manage the trail and it’s visitors. Tread Lightly is going to send a proposal to the Select Board for review next month. They have the funding to put up signage for trail education as well as clean up efforts. I have reached out to the VT rep for Tread Lightly and offered our groups labor in assisting in any efforts to keep this trail open. I’ll follow up with opportunities once they contact me. The first things we can do is STAY OUT OF THE DORSET CAVES for the meantime so that the abutting property owners can calm down while Tread Lightly proposes a solution that will work for everyone involved. #2 we will be asking everyone to take the free online 101 Awareness course that Tread Lightly offers on their website. This will show the neighbors in that area that we are working towards rider educations and trail stewardship. I’ll send more info on this once I take the course myself. Stay tuned and hopefully we can get everyone on board with assisting in keeping this gem of a trail open for future rides and riders.

Got up there today with a few seriously built rigs. I stuck to the reasonable lines and was super impressed with the Tacoma. First time out after suspension and tires went on, and the truck did fucking fantastic. I’ll have some good action shots of my truck in the next couple days, so I’ll throw them up here soon.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Awesome!!! I'd get some protection on there before doing much more wheeling though!

Yes, The gatekeeper keeps most trucks from getting in there. Jeep eater and MA Bell are intense.

I'm up for a Ma Bell run sometime this fall. Will also stick to easy lines mostly but always wanted to check it out. @aStrauss any idea when are you going next?

Not sure when I’ll head back up. It’s definitely the kind of place I’ve been looking for, plenty of opportunity for progression with all of the different line options. I’d be way into getting a group together to run it sometime.

I stuck to the easier lines, with a couple of more technical options here and there. I took no damage, didn’t get stuck at all, aired down to 20psi. The other guys are friends of a friend of mine whose built Ranger is down currently, so he rode with me. The Jeep and FJ guys were getting after it though. The FJ is LS powered, the green YJ has a 350 swap.

I do have an RCI tcase skid, though it is still in the box in my garage. I’ll eventually get the rest of their skids and a set of their sliders, but I am content wheeling within the trucks limitations for the time being. I am a very reasonable and cautious driver, not afraid to ask for a spot when I need one, so not overly afraid of doing significant damage by mistake.

I’ve only been up there the one time, but it’s pretty self explanatory. One trail, goes up a hill, turn around and come back down. Pick your own destiny in between. Tons of lines, good opportunity for progression. I’d be down to lead if you all feel comfortable with that. Scheduling it might be tricky for me though, would have to be a Sunday, probably in November.

For anyone wondering if their rig would make it, my truck is a 2019 TRD Off Road 6mt with an OME 2” lift. 887s and medium duty dakars, nitrochargers all around, and has SPC UCA’s. Tires are 285/70r17 wildpeak at3w’s at 20 psi. Used the rear locker in only one section.
I scraped my hitch coming down one ledge but could have avoided contact if I’d eased down it a little more slowly, and scraped the engine skid on a loose rock getting greedy and testing ground clearance at the center of the truck. Zero body damage, trails are super wide.

We were out there for most of the day, on trail for probably 5.5 hours or so. A lot of that time was standing around bs’ing and egging on whoever was attempting one of the taller ledges, winching Jeeps out, etc. It could probably be done in an hour or two if you want, but it’s a nice place to hang out, take your time, have a good lunch at the top of the hill.

my friend who invited me / spotted for me sent photos over today

Definitely fine with you leading. A Sunday in November should work for me, too... just not the 7th.
