I am looking into soft camper shells, I have ruled out a hard camper shell for the most part but considering the soft top. Generally I like the look of my truck without a shell hence why I am looking into a soft top for a place to sleep when hunting/camping and to keep my gear somewhat dry but easy to remove. I like the idea that the soft shells take less than 2 minutes to take off by yourself and store in a garage, but I don't like the price I have been seeing on several online vendors. Looking at around $550 give or take for a soft top, is that a baseline price? Just seemed a little much for a piece of canvus and some alluminum. Oh and anyone that has a soft top how do you like it? Thanks dudes!

YeaKinda wish I went with a soft top.. but I got my truck cap for 150 bucks so I couldn't pass it up.
But right now, I have it off, and what a pain it was to hoist it to the ceiling in my garage.
Like to have that collapsable folder to have protection for some stuff when a need arises and its raining horribly.

I've shopped the soft tops several times.. 4-600 dollars does seem to be the price you're looking at. You don't save much going with a soft top... But my truck definitely handles like its carrying a load with my ultra lite top on it. Fiberglass isn't expensive to make and they sell more of them. Economies of scale and straight parts and labor make em about the same price.. though I could swear the lady at the truck cap store told me something like 800-1300 for a cap depending on style, but I live in an expensive area.

I have had my Bestop for over two years now and it has been great! I can say the rear window does scratch up easily after some use but its just the nature of a plastic window. It will handle snow on top, its almost completly waterproof( just a trickle or so) and it does come off easily. I like the way it looks on the truck as well. You wong regret the Bestop...

how do you guys feel about security with these things? I want one for going to the grocery store in the rain and taking trips to the beach...i just worry about security...I know its no different then a jeep with a canvas top or a soft tonneau...I don't want to stop at a gas station and come back out to be robbed blind when on a trip

I like the softtop but my only problem is security.you can't leave tools in there.I've been looking for a used cap with no luck. Are these tops the same fabric as a jeep wrangler? So assume all the windows zip out and can be replaced?

Yes its made by bestop the same people who make jeep tops so all the windows but the on next to the cab sip out. I leave shit in there all the time and go do things. The windows are really dark. Even with a hard topper if they want it they will get it. I have tools, jumper cables, my tow strap and a sleeping bag in there all the time. I leave my $2500 bike in the back when we go eat after a ride I dont really worry about things in the back. I did when I first got it but I got use to it pretty fast.
