There’s a turd-gen comping out soon. I’m in the mailing list to find out when. Hopefully soon, those are awesome.
Black Forest, payroll, moose house and moose poop are awesome. Just don’t love the pedal back.
I have both, and they are VERY different. Both have been bomb proof, but feel is night and day.
The Hopes feel like DT Swiss, totally fine and I wouldn’t hesitate to get em.
I also have a set of the Project 321 hubs with 140ish POE, and really like em. They’re great too, but not as problem free as the Hopes, DTs, or i9.

NBD for a long time friend. We’ve been talking about getting bikes together for a few years since we grew up riding shitty $100-200 Walmart bikes as kids. The day has finally come. I scored him a Devinci Kobain with Deore/SLX drivetrain, a Marz Z2 fork, and TranzX Dropper. Not a bad starter bike!

Got my 1up rack. This thing is so much better than the racks from the other big brands.

one thing that is nice is that I have better use of my backup camera since it’s compact.

    not enough.
yeah. the backup camera is so much easier to see with the 1up. even with bikes on, it's fairly easy.

Really want to tag along on a pinhoti or mulberry ride. Sad to say but I’ve never ridden any of the north mid-west GA trails. Would much prefer to ride them with someone who has.

let’s do it. I’ve seen @flipnidaho up there a few times. Between the two of us we’ve got that area of the P’s and a little beyond well covered. Put some options out there that work for your schedule

Brake pad wear question. I’ve changed a lot of pads on cars, moto’s and more recently bikes. And I’ve seen a few uneven wear patterns, but only twice this pattern, and today the second time was on the rear Shimano Deore brake on my wife’s bike:
    8E4220BB-DF48-4FE0-8E67-0BB95872C8A5.jpg
The first time was with aftermarket pads on my Toyota T100, so I figured they just weren’t the right size. But this time both the pads and rotor (which I installed about a year ago) came in Shimano packaging, with genuine looking Shimano branding and part numbers stamped on both the pads and the rotor. I’ve been reading about counterfeit Shimano parts recently .. do you think I got a knock-off and slightly undersized rotor, or it’s just one of those things? The friction material location on the backing plate seemed to match the Shimano pads I replaced these with, so I’m suspecting the rotor but I don’t really have a way to accurately measure that large diameter. Note that this bike has had about 5 or 6 rear pad swaps over the years, usually Shimano pads but sometimes TruckerCo, and the first time I saw this wear pattern was after the rotor replacement. I think I bought both the pads and the rotor at LBS, not online.

Yea buddy. Forgot you’d mentioned heading up that way pretty frequently.

Be a good excuse to see how that Kona/helm build turned out

I like a good Sunday night brake murder mystery. No real clue what caused it but I’ll be interested to hear what it is.

Let’s see a profile pic of the caliper, spacer, and rotor assembly.
At first glance, looks like an extra washer under the caliper that spaced the caliper too far out.

That would be my guess, or the standoff is too long in the first place. The possibility of an undersize rotor doesn't seem likely or even wrong pads......

Looks like you are missing ~5% of available braking power so I would solve the mystery!

An extra spacer or washers pushing the caliper out a few mm was first thing I looked for. But it’s attached directly to the rear triangle, no spacer even since it’s a 160 rotor. Anyway, she’s had this bike from new, only people working on it have been me and my wife (except for the Shimano guy who installed new cables at a race a few years ago). The only changes back there since the last pair of pads wore out evenly a year ago were the new pads and rotor installed by one of us, last December. Actually I think that was her second rotor replacement since new. The rear caliper has never been off the bike.
