So I ran into an issue and wanted to get yalls thoughts...

Doing an oil change and went to remove the oil filter housing and of course it's over tightened by the dealer beyond belief. My options currently are:

    1. go get a breaker bar and try that (didnt think I would need one this time ). I'm just worried at that point I risk cracking the plastic housing. The dealer is not open today to get a new one either

    2. refill with new oil with the old housing/filter for the time being and order the aluminum housing. Then I would just do a new oil change with the new housing and won't have to worry about breaking the plastic in the process.

So the housing is always tough to remove, I usually need a pipe on the end of the socket wrench to break it free and I always do my own oil change.

:bored: Good Morning SA! Slept in this AM - that 4:30 stuff is NOT in the retirement vocabulary! Still, was a nice C&C, and good to see everyone again. And now I know I can sleep at least a half hour more and still get there. Not planning a darn thing today except some steaks.

Always do the filter first, I can't count how many times I ran into issues working on others cars/trucks with this issue, if it doesn't want to budge with reasonable force, run the engine till hot.

The dealer is used too having hot engines come in when doing oil changes, under a hot engine the filter is removed easier, I would say most folks tighten the oil filters way too tight, hand tight is always been the practice. Not sure if the 3.5s have the housing type filter, but same theory of practice.

If you already drained oil, just add new oil, crank till hot engine, remove old filter, replace filter and add a bit more oil in, the new oil is still good...and good to go, upon the next oil change swap over to the aluminum housing then.

Good point Scott, the housing between the 4runner and the Tacoma look identical, both a pain to remove but then again I always deal with them when they are cold.

I appreciate the advice! Was able to finally get it after using a long enough breaker bar and enough force. Took a good look at the housing to make sure there were no cracks but there was also no leaks after putting everything back together. I will probably order the aluminum housing and have it ready for the next oil change.

Badass time with @TrapComa at HF. We conquered Wildcat and went to trails/obstacles that the jeepers kept saying we wouldn’t make it. WE MADE IT!!

I got stuck on the first trail. My entire driver side was a good 4-5ft sunk and 4LO did nothing. Ended up having @TrapComa winch me out and we carried on.

Saw a group out in the desert today, blocking the whole road without a care in the world. I switched directions and jumped ahead of them after the train moved. I hauled down the trail a ways and backed in between some bushes to eat my lunch and see if I could mess with them.
They all passed by me really slow

Finally rolled in to town tonight. Unpacked the truck a bit to start to get organized.

RTTs are cool but not for me. I have this tent for solo camping and another 4p tent for when I bring the gf. My rule of thumb is; divide the tent “capacity” by 2 and that’s the real number of people it was meant to sleep lol.
I wouldn’t want to constantly break down the rtt. If I did anything, I’d go with a camper shell. Because the way I look at it is, a bear can get in a RTT as easy as my ground tent. A hard shell is at least gonna take him a couple extra swipes to break in

That Cruising the Coast car show is badass! I had the numbers wrong. This year, a little more than 10,000 cars were registered! I’m taking my Chevy next year.
