This type of oil drain device is best for small equipment applications such as mowers, pressure washers and such that have the drain on the side and can be easily flipped to drain it out.

I would never install it on anything really expensive such as a vehicle, or at the bottom where it could be scrapped off or damaged.
    Just my $.02.

I have the safety clip on and a silicone nipple covering drain hole. I love my valve makes oil changes a breeze. No problems here

I don’t understand why would you want a valve that may open or get damaged while off-roading . Is it that hard to remove a bolt ?

I used one on My previous vehicle, Jeep Liberty CRD because of the way the stock oil plug was a hex keyed bolt with few threads the could be easily damaged if over tightened or the washer/gasket not used. it would also damage the cast aluminum oil pans threads. It was a very common thing for that uncommon engine. in 12 years of owning it I never had any issue with it leaking or opening. I had the shortest one and it was above the skid plate so never had any issues off road either. I never used the plastic clip most of that time as it didn't exist early on.

Would I put one on my Tacoma now? I'm really on the fence about that. The Tacoma has a steel oil pan that is not so easy to damage like the jeeps was and in a location not hard to reach so I don't see lots of benefits to it like before. I do believe Fumoto valve is a good well made product. You can't blame the product for user error.

Have had a Fumoto valve for the last 3.5 years with zero problems because I never installed it.

I put one on mine. I got tired of the 0-20W oil splattering everywhere, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. I put the clip on it after closing the valve and feel pretty damn confident the valve won't be damaged or open on its own.

Now I don't get pissed about oil getting everywhere after a drain. If that makes me a dumbass that can't handle a drain plug, so be it.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Im thankful that those of you that don't know how to ensure a ball valve is shut, then confirm it's shut, then use a secondary securing device refuse to use one on your vehicle. This ensures that the oil will stay in your crankcase until you decide it's time to drain it.

May I suggest you also implement a lockout/tagout program when you work on your truck too?

    :D

I joke, but I have tagged out my ignition when I've got things like a loosened crank bolt that would cause catastrophic damage if not attended to.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
Soooo, you neglect to use the locking device and the valve opened, even though you closed it?

    Without the locking device.

The locking device, that makes sure the valve does not accidently open.

    The LOCKING DEVICE.

    Just checking.

    Totally the manufacturers fault.

For the record, the Fumoto valve is installed by screwing it on.

It's a plug with an easy to undo valve at the end, if it flips open then it is the end.
