2022 TRD PRO or OFF ROAD

In this market where there isn't much discounting, I would either go for a much cheaper trial edition where you will get the locker and mini lift or go all the way to Pro. I got my 21 Pro with a bunch of options right at 49k, and the TRD OR Premiums with all the fixings is within just a couple thousand. It's a no brainer. You get great resale, great looks, and a suspension that's actually decent for a lot of stuff. (Also that fake scoop seems to prevent the hood from separating from the supports underneath, and causes the hood to flutter.). If you are hard core desert racer or crawler, then I don't think you would even be asking this question, but the Pro Suspension is pretty capable stock.

In the old days where they could have been 8k+ price difference between a loaded off road and a Pro, due to dealears willingness to discount, it would make sense. But otherwise go Pro! All this assumes you are paying MSRP.

Depends.... If you are wanting a premium loaded out off road, then get the pro as it wont be much more. If you want a non premium offroad, then you save 8k or more and the only thing you wont have is the rims and suspension. You'll still have all the main things that the pro has though such as multi terrain, crawl mode' 4x4, rear locker and same power train. To me the pro, while nice, is not worth the extra money. but im a cloth non sunroof cheap ass guy so I bought a non premium offroad with the tech package to get blind spot and parking sensors. Main reason I wanted the tech package was because I didnt want a bunch of blank switches in my center console. Lol

Everyone has different ideas, goals, uses & preferences for their taco. Some people seem to get the taco and want to go 1st class all the way with all available factory options, like money is no object. Others are frugal or even cheap and have a crazy do-it-yourself spirit. In my case the main options the OffRoad had that hooked me in was the rear locker, no hood-scoop & no front ground effects or air dam, so I got the bare bones OffRoad 6MT with no extra factory options, only the entry-level non-JBL radio unit (kinda missing HD-Radio, but there are not many stations nearby anyhow). I'm going to enjoy adding PRO or PRO-like options myself, gradually over time.

 

Cloth seats and a sunroof? They must have changed the configurations since your model year. I'm exaggerating with the 5'6" a little bit, of course it depends on one's torso, so I must be all torso haha. I'm 6'1, I don't fit in sunroofed tacomas, and I don't even fit in sunroofed Sequoias...

 

Yeah leather wasn't available until 2018 unless you got a Pro or Limited.

 

Four things keep me from ever considering the PRO, limited color choice, 5 foot bed only, mandatory scoop and sunroof. While you can swap out the hood pretty easily the other three are deal breakers for me. If those things aren't important to the OP then find the best deal you can for the PRO.

 

I saw a 2021 TRD Pro with a sunroof. The article is wrong in that regard. Maybe the rest is accurate?

 

I saw that too... The '21 Pro does come with a sunroof. (I have it).
(- I am 6'-1" and I have plenty of headroom.)

If one is interested in the packages available for the OR, then the PRO is the right choice. - especially considering resale value. PROs have held their value well. Modded trucks simply do not... (This is why there is such a disassembly process needed upon sale of a modded truck. - along with purchase of stock parts - It is the only way to get some value out.)

 

TRD pro is like off road but fancy, I don't see point in it to be honest. Off road will do just fine, its not like you live in Siberia where you are fighting for your life using your car as income.

 

Yeah, I was dead set on the pro and willing to take the hit with the mark-up…but then I realized that I was going to pour some dough into the stereo system and I didn’t want to pay a premium for something I was going to rip out anyway. If the Pro came with a V8…it would be in my driveway. But what’s unique about the OR in the Tacoma lineup, is the low-key but capable looks. The OR has no hood scoop and the aggressive stance sets it apart from the Sport. You’ll just have more fun upgrading it than with a Pro.

 

It was accurate for when it was written, sunroof became standard on the Pro after that.

 

Exactly dude, its like luxury BS on TRD pro truck does not need. Tundra prices are insane because of that non sense, TRD and now they have some 1980 edition or some bs that is almost 90K.

With Ford, GM,Chevy trucks it makes sense because they have different engine options it comes with, with Toyota its same engine but extra bs that doesn't affect performance. I hope 4th gen Tacoma isn't going on same road as Tundra did
