    A bit of reality.....

You had legitimate answers to your original "problem" before post #50, since then it has been mostly random thoughts by the OP with equally related answers.

There comes a point when help is no longer an assist, but a time for the requester to take action. Sometimes the action is as simple as thinking and applying the suggested answers.

    Wish you a good day.

What's the deal here? I cannot understand for the life of me why people are berating me for asking totally legitimate questions about my truck...

I don't do "stock" in this thread; I prefer aftermarket options :D

    So much over thinking.

    1. Check oil once a week after it's been sitting for a while.

    2. Add if necessary

    3. Move on with life

I was diagnosed with OCD when I was 16, so overthinking things is something I can't control at times, especially with a truck that has great sentimental value to me...:goingcrazy:

I've just been busy with two jobs and forgot to do my once weekly oil check last week...

You are the one who gave me the swift kick in the ass I needed before with regards to my truck's oil issues; Thanks, Bill :)

Also, someone on TW suggested checking the spark plugs on page 1 or 2 to see if there's any oil in the combustion chamber; My mechanic who would do this for free is swamped until next week, and there's no way in hell I'm paying the dealer, so a friend of mine who has a bit more experience in doing stuff like this is going to help me disassemble the intake and gain access to the spark plugs since I don't feel comfortable doing it on me own; I'm bringing the truck over to his house in about an hour...

Most the people in your threads seem pretty polite. Sometimes there is a sarcastic comment or a little banter but that’s pretty normal for the internet I would say.

Yeah; The mods and most of the members including you have been great. I just have a great deal of sentimental attachment to my truck because my parents bought it for me during my second semester of college, and me and that truck have been on so many adventures together. My Tacoma is practically a member of the family, and I would be devastated if any harm came to it as the result of a rookie maintenance mistake...

If it needs plugs....pull them and throw new ones in. If not, don't bother. What's going to happen if you find some oil on them? That's just another rabbit hole for you to go down.

Leave it alone. Just check and add....then drive.

Stay with a 5k interval at the most and continue to use the Mobil1 HM 10w30. 5w30 will also work....but the 10w30 as less viscosity modifiers and a slightly better HTHS number and is on the heavier side of the 30 weight spectrum.

I was having a conversation with another member, and I'm thinking I might switch to 5W30 High Mileage for the winter just so the truck is easier to start...

I understand that. I get pretty attached to my vehicles also nothing wrong with that. A lot of people like to do the roasting thing but it’s no big deal just don’t respond to it.

I have a high-functioning form of autism and don't always respond well to even good-natured ribbing; I have improved greatly in this department over the last decade and am getting better everyday...

you could do a leak down test while you’re in there won’t take too much more work. Then you’ll know health of the engine.

My friend and I are pulling the spark plugs today; Next time the truck goes in for an oil change, which is less than 900 miles, I'm gonna go for the leak down test and compression test...

Luckily, I don't think the open container law applies on private property!

@PennSilverTaco Hey, so I don't have time to read through this whole thread but i've got the same truck and it certainly buns oil between changes.
I only loose about 1 quart though. How much oil are you putting in when you do your oil changes?

I'm down about a quart every time I change my oil. 5,000 mile intervals, full synthetic 0W-20.
Pretty sure it takes about 5.6 quarts according to the owners manual. Is that how much you're putting it when you do oil changes?
