    All stock, baby!
@PennSilverTaco I get that you want this solved now but from an economic standpoint, taking the long view and doing some data collection over the mid- to long-term is probably the way to go. You're putting miles on the truck at a fast enough rate that I think within six months or so you'll have narrowed down the possibilities pretty well. It's not particularly likely that your engine is at risk of having anything truly bad happening that's causing the oil loss. At least, it's unlikely that you'll end up saying "oh, if only I had done XYZ six months ago, my engine wouldn't be ruined!" Not impossible I suppose, but very low probability.

I get the OCD part, I'm like that on certain things. Hard to let go sometimes. But I think you'll at least know what's probably going on in fairly short order.

Looks like you lost a half quart of oil on the fan shroud, funnel funnel funnel!

Yeah, about that; I accidentally spilled fresh oil while pouring it into the funnel, and I'd had a beer beforehand...

Well maybe that's where your missing oil on the dipstick has went? If you added 5.5 quarts but spilled a half quart, then you really only put in 5 quarts.

You won't have starting issues with 10w30. If you do you have a weak battery. You're in PA not the North Pole. 10 will readily flow at temps well below zero

That was me on the spark plugs, which, going back to the original problem, is one way to check if significant amounts of oil are getting into the combustion chambers. I promise you it’s easy, and you can check and/or replace them yourself with just a few hand tools.

You could also just keep on topping off the oil as needed and keep on trucking.

Mist or anything coming out the oil filler is a sympton of exessive blowby, worn rings. You should only feel barely detectable puffs of air when the cap is off and the engine running.

Spark plugs are good in terms of no oil in the combustion chamber, but we decided to replace them anyway since we have it taken apart...

I think the valve cover gasket might need replaced. Looks like some oil is getting by

Nice work on the plugs! Glad they’re dry, that’s a good sign.
