Television was just so much better then.
Peter Falk built the role to perfection. Many of the Columbo signature mannerisms - the raincoat, fumbling in the pockets, "oh, just one more thing", etc. were all his own additions to the series.

Somehow I'm crazy enough to sign back up for shift work if my interview goes well. 5 week rotating 12 hr shifts, if it falls on a holiday we work it. Did that for about 5 years and didn't mind it, but it is nice to get off for a holiday rather than them just giving you extra money to be stuck there while everyone else is having fun:annoyed:

Frankly, I hate most people and it's a good valid excuse for not going to dumb events. The good part with a rotating shift and picking up OT shifts is nobody really knows when your working so if you tell them you have to work, there's really no challenge or question if you are or not :dancingbacon:

I've been working from home since March 2019 when COVID started, and while I thought it would be nice (which it was for a while), I need to get out and interact with actual co workers (even if that means frustration and yelling LOL). I can only stare at the 4 walls in my office and waste so much time on TW and Amazon in a day. And additionally, most days I'm in the hole for saving any money because I just buy shit online and have all day to think about what to buy next. If I go into work, that might take my mind of those types of habits haha.

One of my way back jobs I worked lots of holidays along with another fellow.
We liked it because we could get to places not accessible during production and better we could turn a lot of work out without being called away 100 times.

So far, so good and money too! -- Then our boss (a good guy actually) noticed how much work we could turn out on a holiday and thought he could get a lot done in his office if he came in too.
And then came the problem -- he would get lonely... And call us to come down to the office to discuss ___ ... :redxfall:

How do you tell your boss that he is keeping you from doing work at double time and a half? :frusty:

Finally got around to washing the vehicles, as we have a nice stretch of dry weather coming. My wife and I spent a nice morning together cleaning her Rav4 and my truck.

I need to wash all three of mine, but the motivation is not there today. Had to force myself to mow the grass...

I wasn't motivated to do jack today -- so I fired up the wagon and took a 96 mile trip to get an ice cream. :)

Heh, I had to move the ol' beater Talon to edge the sidewalk infront of the house (had to move it in-front of g'mas house and left it running to her dismay ) so I decided to take it for a rip and terrorize the town. Somehow the damn thing starts every time. I do believe the head gasket is on its way out so that's one more damn thing I gotta add to my winter repair list... A complete Mahle gasket set is $91 on the Rock and another $20 for new bolts. Timing belt engine so it's not too complicated.

    Is it losing antifreeze?

:gossip: -- Not that I publicly advocate "mechanic in a can" products -- Powdered Aluma-Seal has kept many a wheezer on the road for a few more miles, it may or may not work but it won't mess up anything. I have seen the brown maple syrup stuff elevate leaking to overheating.

Slowly, but surely is loosing coolant. Also a nice white sweet smelling smoke, albeit not a bunch yet, it's present. No matter how much of a beater no additives for me. For around $150 I'll just replace the gasket set. It includes gaskets I need anyways to solve some of the oil leaks. Car is gonna get Antique tags here soon as it does away with the yearly inspections. Not that I'm against inspections, but the probable list to get it to genuinely pass is pretty high (non-safety items IMO). Not gonna use a sticker slap place I may or may not have used previously. Gonna scope out a parts car I found in Maryland for some odds and ends I could use.

I do get a huge (kind of sad) laugh out of the "additive advocates" when I listen to their stories:

"I ran my car out of oil and it overheated real bad -- so I filled it with Royal Purple and put a bottle of Slick 50/DuraLube/Prolong/Wal-Mart snake oil to help it out"....

:smack:Why not just try some regular maintenance and check the oil every week?
