For sure. It also helped me learn quick that dealerships are not the place to take a vehicle that is out of warranty. Especially an older one that they don't see much of compared to newer models. There's this misconception among a lot of people that 'no one knows your vehicle better than the company that made it'. Yeah, right. That's why whenever the parts cannon doesn't work, they have to fly in a "Master Technician" to do any semblance of actual diagnostic work.

I had a lingering po171 code back when I first got this truck, within the 30 day warranty the dealer gave me after I bought it. They had it for over a week before having a master tech come in just to figure out the EGR plug on the back of the supercharger had fallen out. This was after replacing spark plugs, O2 sensors and my MAF. Luckily free because of the short dealer warranty.

no offense @Empty_Lord , you're an exception to the rule lol.

I think the incentives are all screwed up. Most of the time someone else is footing the bill, so it’s easy for them to just throw parts at it and hope it works, which it probably does 90% of the time, and you don’t need as many skilled techs.

We had an 82 Volvo when I was a kid and a local Volvo only mechanic. That guy was the best. I haven’t even bothered looking for an old Toyota one yet.

So, plasma cutting ends tomorrow already as they want me to get some stick welding in.

I like stick welding and it's one of the few that I actually received a full formal training in. Also haven't used it in almost 7 years so I guess there's that

    I’ve got you all beat.

The 2 guys I talk to most often say they love stick welding and didn't like going MIG when they switched. They also happen to be the 2 that want to do pipe welding for a living so there's that.

I'm just excited to start; I knew the plasma cutting wouldn't last long. It's cheating.

I didn't realize all that about the displacement based taxes. Doesn't seem like a good fit for over here.

The plasma cutting earlier, playing with 1/8", 1/4" and even 3/16"

Someone welded this monstrosity with different gauge steel so I went ahead and cut it all up as I saw fit -

Oxyfuel cutting taught me really well about cutting varying gauges of steel, as well as the amount of heat needed.

Did he think he was going to be able to cross that?? Even if he somehow had gotten the front end over, he would have wrecked the sides of this truck esp with those dumb predator steps or whatever they're called

Either that or he was bombing along when suddenly that rut appeared out of nowhere lol

I'm thinking the former of the 2; truck looks too clean and new and probably has a loan on it :bananadead:

Too bad you didn't slip a magnet on one side. You could have a loaded die, but only on top of steel lol
