The weight of my previous canopy deformed the shape of my bed rail caps but it went back to normal after having the canopy off of it. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures to show

It’s not pretty but gets the job done. I bought some door edge guards at autozone and a pool noodle looking thing lol. It was worth it for the piece of mind!

Have had an X1 for 30 days now.
impressed with it. Will be fabbing something for rain gutters off front corners, it’s the only issue I’ve encountered so far.

Nice, simple as well. I did something similar using foam from a hard pelican style case with some wood and Velcro strips. Think I like your pool noodle better!2DF82357-CBBA-4E64-9B66-E4C76F16B642.jpg

I am also a Gen II owner with aftermarket bedrail caps. I've got an appointment set up with Spencer in a few weeks to discuss my situation, but it looks like you've already gone where I'm going. I'm curious if it's possible to avoid using the 3/4" starboard spacer on the sides. I've installed a low profile antenna and have no plans to install a rack. In fact, I'd be happy to lower the camper height so I can get in my garage easier. I still don't understand what using spacers means to the rear door and how it interfaces with the tailgate. Do you also have a spacer on the tailgate? I guess another problem might be the tab that sticks down and will hit the T-Slot rails since they are higher than the Gen III. I'm thinking I could just remove the cab side one before the install. Finally, it sounds like there might be some problem with the side clamps if the side T-Slots and camper clamp points are too close together. I'm grateful for whatever experience you can share.

I believe the issue si more it will be too close to the cab. These things flex and move a good inch or so. The last thing you want is this thing slamming down on your antenna/cab. Most of an issue in the front part then the rear on the cab. I have my rack cut almost 1.5" and I still have it hit the rack some. remove the bed height and your getting close to the cab.

Always worth a shot but that's where I would be worried.

The biggest crux is that the internal tab that will contact the t-slot without the starboard spacer as you mentioned. You'd have to remove them on all 3 sides and it would then be an issue as the camper mounts with the t-slot clamps. You could maybe mount it similar to how the first gen (and other truck models) mount, but all of that seems like a big deviation from the original design for that model. This all independent from the cab clearance that @nudavinci64 mentioned.

good call I did not eve think of the mounts. Any lower and not even sure the current mounts would work. The 2nd gens are already too long for the setup. No starboard or risers would put the front lip in contact though it seems. with them on it only contacts the starboard.

Yea, you could maybe chop down that inner lip by whatever the delta is between the OEM bedrails and the aftermarket ones (maybe .3/4"?) which might take the whole thing off or take it down to a small nub. Either way, it would have to be done before assembly of the camper to make sure it's straight and uniform and you'd lose the purpose of that inner lip which helps to keep the camper registered on the bed (pretty well too from my experience, but mileage seems to vary on that). The clamp issue would still stand though.

I pondered lowering the t-slot inside the bed somehow, but it seemed like far more effort than it was worth.

yah its already too short which would almost do the same. Looking at my camper I'm sure its moved forward 1/2" or so and basically just pushed the starboard forward. The lip at least on my truck is pointless except for maybe some attempt to seal some dust. I also think that is a very critical part to keep it aligned and from moving forward to the cab as you mentioned.

one the second gen it needs to be another 1/2 - 1". maybe even screw into the front rail.

I thought the tab that stick down is only on the one side facing the cab window. Am I to understand, there are also registration tabs on the sides of the X1? If that's the case, all this is starting to make sense.

I think it's only really a factor when you have the starboard though. I haven't noticed any motion with the stock bedrails as it's then more a direct connection to the truck - I'd imagine that the bedrail->starboard->camper integration is the gap especially if it's just VHB.

It can't be any longer as it's super tiny of a gap as it is on top of the t-slot.

Seen two Tundras with SP’s at a local Rigs & Coffee meet this past weekend. There’s so much space underneath in the camper. Makes me want a Tundra or full size now lol! I also got to see the Last US Bag that they’re making for underside of the roof of the tent. They are also making an extra pouch that attaches to it to hold an iPad. I should’ve took pix of it but I didn’t.
