So ive been reading alot about this deck plate mod and people pairing them with a AFE pro dry air filter. What is this deck plate mod and will it acheieve the same results of a cold air intake? Any advantages to getting the CAI over just doing the deck plate mod?

Also, what will a throttle body spacer accomplish.

Im new to all this so please dumb it down for me. thanks

You can see my deck plate mod if you click on my build.
    There's varying results really.

throttle body spacers are a waste of money, and the deck plate mod works just like an aftermarket intake.

Basically stock. OME 882s, HD Dakars and nitrochrgers, TG front bumper, custom rear bumper, 4Xinnovations sliders, RAT skids, Softopper, 255/85/16 ST MAXX's on 16" steelies, 1" B.O.R.A. wheel spacers Scangaugae II, deck plate mod, grey wire mod,ECGS bushing, diff breather relocation, alarm mod, defrost w/o compressor mod, de-badged, sockmonkey beside decals.
x2, except you can just put the plate and close off the hole for deep water crossings or splashing through puddles, which would soak an aftermarket intake filter and suck water into the engine

Yea, but what exactly does the deck plate mod do? And if it is worth doing, will it accomplish everything a CAI would????

It does nothing. Absolutely nothing. I wouldn't even worry about it.

    Deck plate mod=$15 CAI = $150+

If you got the $, go with a CAI (looks nicer I suppose). If you want to be apart of the gang, go with the deckplate mod. I read info on the deckplate mod ad nauseum before I bit the bullet. I rock the aFe dry filter and it sounds badass, but as far as HP gain, perhaps a couple. But the "Butt Dyno" gives two thumbs up (if a butt has two thumbs). Deckplate mod sounds mean at 3k rpm...love it!

So i get that the deck plate mod allows for better air flow. HOwever, isnt the purposeof a CAI to bring COLD air better performance and hp gain. Seems like if you just did a deck plate mod you would still be getting the warm air in?

Dont get me wrong, $15 mod sounds better than $200 or 300 but it was something i was wondering

Forgot to mentions this as well. As you are pulling your intake box from the intake tube I would also remove the elbow from the box as well. :)

By removing it, do you just mean for easier installation. Or removing it and keeping it off all together?

Here is write up the WATRD did when he did the deck plate mod on his truck.

At the end of the page is this little note.

Your call, $25 and some time to do this mod and easily returned to "stock" if you get a snorkel or $150+ for a CAI that will get you pretty much the same gains.

    Windshield wiper nozzles,
I'm not an engineer, and know a little about engine's but I'm learning  My question is, If I keep an AFE CAI on for daily use, AND have a deck plate mod for my expeditions, would this work or be over kill? I'm assuming that the Deckplate would take over the CAI when the plate was removed, but for daily use, keep the plate on and use the CAI.

just do the deck plate mod, a ''cold air intake" is still pulling air from the same place as the deck plate mod. I have a 6" deckplate and after about 2000 rpm's it whistles pretty good.

I did the deck plate mod today, sounds awesome when you wrap it up to the higher rpms, but i like the fact I can throw the plate on if I need to, seems to have an increase in torque but that could be the clean air filter cause that sucker was dirty. I have the K&N filter I also blocked the J silencer with a mechanical plug. i have a TB spacer in mine and it seems to have gained me a little hp but not sure I put it on a few years ago and got it cheap so it was worth the shot. Obviously havent driven much on the new mod but sound good running around town and seems to get up and go a little qicker. for 15 bucks tops its worth a shot IMO and if you dont like it, just throw the plate back in and its like you never did it...
