Good habit to form is to disconnect the Negative side of the battery BEFORE FN around with the wires........

But some must learn the hard way. My oldest daughter was like this. We could tell her "Don't touch that its hot." She'd touch it. Then First Aid.

The mods gotta do that; Once I'm done with a thread, I get it merged with the MegaThread; Been doing that for years. It allows me to have an online record of everything I've done to my truck :):D:cool:

How does this relate to the dash lights you get starting up a motor with an ignition coil disconnected? Doesn’t matter what was done with the battery before hand, that one cylinder won’t be firing.

It doesn't. That comment was posted in the other thread on the subject of the truck consuming a 1/2 quart of oil. Specifically, as a tip to prevent fouling up the electrical system while dinking with the wiring.

Looks like the OP has merged the 2 topics.......

Can't fathom anyone plowing through 2200+ pages of drivel and c-rap.

Charlie, my 2006 has the same 2.7l engine you have and have been putting off replacing the valve cover gasket. Could some of your oil loss be from oil seeping out and burning off before noticing anything significant, as I have noticed my engine around the gasket looking wetter as time goes by?

Well you did quote my coil post. But anyway. Go easy on the guy. Anyone who doesn’t like the content can just avoid it…

That is definitely possible; How much do you think it would cost to replace the valve cover gasket? Now that my frame is getting replaced I am DEFINITELY keeping my truck for the long haul, even if I buy something new and the truck is relegated to second vehicle status; My mechanic is very skilled at doing engine swaps on otherwise good vehicles that just need a new engine. He told me could probably put an engine from a totaled truck in my truck for like $3,500; If my truck needs a major repair at like 250K or so, it might be more economically feasible to drop a new one in there, and I would actually pay to do that instead of buying a newer vehicle and possibly having monthly payments...

There are some good threads on DIY valve cover gasket replacement, so I was going to go that route, and haven't priced it. Here are some good threads if you decide to DIY it:

Just so we are clear, this is a lot less involved than replacing the head gasket, correct?

Yes, the valve cover gasket doesn't keep the coolant separated from the oil, it sits on top of the engine, and when you see too much oil seeping it's time to do the replacement, mine has gotten that bad yet.

I don't see oil seeping, but in order to nip this in the bud before 150K, I'd have my mechanic put a new valve cover gasket in!
