    OK, I don’t think I’ve told this before . . .

Something over 25 years ago I was working at a small company not too far from here, and close to where I was living at the time.
A coworker and his wife had just picked up a new pistol, so we arranged to go to a shooting range to do some plinking on a Saturday. They picked me up, and we decided to swing by work to pick up a couple sets of ear protectors to avoid having to rent them.

We pulled in rather haphazardly and I jumped out & ran in to grab the earmuffs.
I had noticed my boss’s car as I was heading in, so I swung by his office to let him know what I was doing so he wouldn’t wonder what this car was doing there on a Saturday. However, I just got a glimpse of him as he was heading through a door at the other end of the hall, so I figured he didn’t even know we were there and headed out.

I had probably been in the building for just a couple minutes.
As I headed out the door towards my friends’ car, I saw a cop car pulled behind it, and the cop halfway between, gun down at his side, looking towards the car saying “ Where’s the gun?”.

The next few minutes were surprisingly uneventful. We explained what we were doing, and he said he was there because the alarm had been set off.
My assumption is that my boss had set off the alarm shortly before we got there, and the cop had probably come down the driveway at the end of the building and around back. When he pulled around to the front of the building, there was this vehicle sitting in perfect getaway mode.
At about the same time, Wendy asked Tom something about their new gun, so Tom reached into the back seat, picked it up and probably had it silhouetted in the window. They had their dog with them, who noticed the cop approaching on foot and barked. This caused the cop to retreat back to his car temporarily, and draw his gun.
Somehow this didn’t escalate, so when I came out shortly after, he was calm and we quickly sorted things out.
While we were talking, he got a call from dispatch saying they had received a 911 call for “officer in trouble “ from a nearby apartment. His response was “I’m ok - will explain later”
He took my basic info but I don’t think he even took Tom & Wendy’s names. We were gone within 5 minutes. It wasn’t until later that it hit me just how badly this could have gone in a more antagonistic climate.

Not sure if he even stayed to speak to my boss - neither one of us ever brought up the subject, and I think he would have - probably would have complained about having a gun on the property.

    The interviewer asked me
"Where do you see yourself in five years?"
Apparently the answer he was looking for was not
"Naked and free. Living amongst the bears and ruling as their king"
