I don't see how this is remotely close to being a helicopter parent. A concerned parent sure.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Good thinking, but when they get older they'll figure out how to get to them. I know I did.
If you have keyless entry & start, get in the habit of locking the fob when you put them up for the night. You'd be surprised how far they can transmit to permit keyless entry, never mind those who would clone your fob. Just 'cuz they're out of reach doesn't mean that the door won't unlock by touch.

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
When I was kid, there were very effective ways of dealing of undesirable behavior.

Yeah, I went to Catholic grammar school. How did you know?

I loved stealing my uncles TJ keys and shifting like I was DE. That and the Playboy mags he stashed in there were more than enough to capture my curiosity.

Just pull it up really far each time. So far that your kids’ developing muscles can’t pull it back and release it.

I do this. My wife hates and struggles with it when I pull it out like that, so this is a field- tested solution—not some hippie-dippy speculation.

During these unusual times secondary market prices have reached ridiculous levels. You could get top dollar for those kids, if they're in good condition with no leaks

Good man will give it a shot.

Jokes aside the used truck market is crazy right now. I got more than I paid for my 2017 GMC trade in.

Easy solution is to get an auto. No reason anyone should be operating levers these days.

Years ago my cousin at the age of 4 drove his parents truck into the lake . He was famous for stealing the keys for vehicles . There were no safety devices incorporated into the old 1975 Chevy truck at the time .
From then on , I have always kept the keys out of reach and the doors locked on my personal cars
