Deer hunting BS thread

Bow season starting out slow here. acorns fell very early due to drought dry summer. im seeing more in the yard than the boys are hunting. had 3does 10-25 yds from the house 3 times today. mowing acorns in the yard.

 

Just an average Doe to put meat in the freezer. Took her this morning.

bow season report. oldest seeing some in town.(urban archery) youngest has damn honey holes to hunt. land even i couldnt get on. seeing lots. let a buck walk under him the other day. they going to give him a year to see if rack evens out. thought i may creep him out as the farm was part of a battle field in the Civil War

Update after my confident post last week hahahaha. I got within 400 yards of 2 bulls but as I was moving closer I saw something move behind the trees... WTF ANOTHER BULL?? HELL YEAH!!! Wrong. another hunter. I walked right up to him. He was about 200 yards from the bulls and was backing out. If I was in his position I would've been a little more aggressive and moved up the hill and came around the back to the bulls. I was actually planning on hiking up the ridge the bulls were on to begin with but that's neither here nor there. I chose wrong.

Anyways antelope. We left friday around noon on a 2.5 hr drive. Saw a bunch of antelope on the way up. Rain around 3pm. No biggie. Found a really nice antelope buck. Nice and wide. I'd guess around 15 inches. Crossing the rode into some land we have access on. We drive up the rode and turn around to watch him. It's almost dark so we figured watch and see if he beds so we can go in there saturday and shoot him. We park for 2 minutes and here comes another truck who stops in the middle of the road and ends up bumping him and he runs off into the next county. Don't matter, there's plenty of Bucks out there. Just gotta get up and find them in the morning.

Heres what happened. We camped on a piece of blm not even 1/4 mile off the main road. Maybe 1/8 up this little hill. Not real steep but its enough. Rain alllllll night till 4pm saturday. We wake up around 6:30 and I'm alright lets go everyone. We're ready getting the kids in the car and I tell myself i better walk this road before we get the car started. I walk the road and my boots cake up with the Eastern Mt gumbo that Mt's known for. 3 steps and 3 inches of clay is stacked up on my boots. No way we could leave the camp spot. So we just hung out at camp all saturday. I ended up glassing up a bachelor group of 8 muley bucks with 2 really nice ones about a mile from camp. Tried chasing them but something spooked them out and they took off. Got out around noon sunday and found a few bucks. Wife was super picky and didn't want to shoot any that I pointed out.

We're going back this weekend for a day so she can fill her tag. Antelope meat is the family favorite. It's also the last weekend of Archery season. So saturday we're going antelope hunting. If I see a deer I'll chase it. Other wise I'm heading to a spot on sunday with my bow that's about 2 miles in and see's almost no pressure. Even if I don't kill anything it'll be a great scouting trip for the rifle opener on the 23rd.
