Just where is the actual RADAR on the front of the truck?j. Snow and Ice this morning and my Cruise would not work until the temperature got to 36F, the ice and snow melted. Where is this detector (pix help) to clean? No help in Owners’ Manual.

I believe it is in the windshield. Either that or the Toyota logo. Try disabling radar cruise by holding the button for a few seconds.

Its the Toyota logo in the grill. Also you can hold down the CC button and still use standard cruise until it melts or you clean it off.

Why would you disable a safety feature? Is it too difficult to drive without cruise until the road becomes safe to?

Clear lit enunciators on my dash. A good engineering practice is to keep all warning lights
    OFF

FYI you're not supposed to use dynamic cruise control in rain or snow per the manual. Just a heads up in case you were unaware

■Situations unsuitable for dynamic radar cruise control
Do not use dynamic radar cruise control in any of the following situations

Doing so may result in inappropriate speed control and could cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
●Roads where there are pedestrians, cyclists, etc.
    ●In heavy traffic
    ●On roads with sharp bends
    ●On winding roads
●On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
●On steep downhills, or where there are sudden changes between sharp up
    and down gradients
Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.
●At entrances to freeways and highways
When weather conditions are bad enough that they may prevent the sensors from detecting correctly (fog, snow, sandstorm, heavy rain, etc.)
When there is rain, snow, etc., on the front surface of the radar sensor or
    camera sensor

●In traffic conditions that require frequent repeated acceleration and deceleration
●When your vehicle is towing a trailer or during emergency towing
●When an approach warning buzzer is heard often

My truck doesn't have it to begin with. It's more of a convenience feature than a safety one. OP should know the difference between when it is and isn't ok to use cruise. Sometimes the road is perfectly dry and clear but the temperature has caused frost buildup, etc.

You really shouldn't turn on cruise control in wet, icy, or other low traction conditions anyway.

    That's begging for a wipeout.

Radar cruise control isn't a safety feature, it's an option. Without it it's just cruise control and without that is just driving

Apparently no one actually reads the verbiage and instead jumps to conclusions based upon their own interpretations of the question.

This thread is SOLELY asking for the locations of the RADAR sensor in order to clean the ice and snow thus eliminating the LIT ENUNCIATOR light on the Dash. NOTHING in my post or request suggested actually driving in a snow storm with Cruise Control. Perhaps when I stated that the Cruise would not work it led to confusion.

No disrespect, but I got an implied message that you wanted to use the cruise just by the fact that you said it wasn’t working with snow & ice present. You didn't have to mention cruise control at all, just the malfunction lights on the display. :anonymous:

I’ve had the same malfunction display a few time with wet snow on the Toyota logo. Cleaned it off, al good.

The radar is also used for the precollision system.

Thanks to all. I guess the “Cruise Control in the Snow” started by the silly message that popped up when the Radar Detector Iced over. That message was all about my Smart Cruise Control not working.

its behind the toyota logo on regular grills, under the toyota logo on the pro grills. Theres a camera in the top of the windshield too, but idk what thats for.

fun story. i was driving to go snowboarding the first winter i got my truck. roads were pretty clear so i turned on my cruise control. came to a part where the car in front slowed down to turn off the road, so my truck slowed down. as they turned my truck sped up. this part of the road was shaded and i guess there was snow or ice there. wheels spinning real fast lost traction, but the a trac took over and i didnt spin out. coulda been bad, but it wasnt. and thats the day i fell in love with my truck again

I mean this is pretty much saying that your trying to use cruise in snow and ice.

And it still is if you turn off radar cruise.

Fair enough. You do however get a warning on the dash that it doesn't work if the sensor is covered. Which is what I believe OP was talking about.
