I have great confidence of quick drain type of oil change adapters. Every airplane that I have owned had one direct from the factory.

I can see how some people might find the OP's valve useful, but it wouldn't be something I would use personally.

Now the screw on oil filter relocation kit would be extremely useful for me and I am going to get that! Thanks for sharing that.

 

Been using Fumoto valves for years with ZERO issues across multiple cars (including my track car). I've never used the secondary retainer clip either. But you really need to make sure you click it into the locked location!!!!

 

I got a Fumoto several years ago. I could take it or leave it. I always change my own oil until I had shoulder surgery and couldn't for a while. Oil change shop guy left the little plastic safety clip off first time. I didn't realize it til later and didn't really see where it was needed anyway so I never replaced it.
It's easier than a drain plug for me...I don't drop the plug now. But oil drains out a little slower so if you are in a hurry you will notice that. It seems safe enough too.

I like to flatten a side of my drain plugs so when I’m loosening them with a pipe wrench I can always place a couple good smacks with a cold chisel to get it started. When tightening I use the “red loctite and finger tight” method.

 

While we are all here wondering what’s going on I’ll add one more level of detail why I have my oil setup the way I do.

I have a 2 Micron bypass filter setup in my work shop on a bench. I use this filter system to strain-out smaller contaminants that the high- flow filters of 18-20 microns in our engine bays can’t. I very easily drain my engine oil once per month into a very clean polycarbonate container directly from the Fumoto valve and filter the oil for about 15 minutes to then re-introduce it back into my engine. Why do I do this? People much smarter than me point to particulates from engine wear to be one of the leading causes of engine failure. Engine wear can reduce the life of your engine and can cause you to use more oil.

I use 0W20 on all three vehicles I own so it makes sense to have a bench setup for convenience and cost. My setup is so easy it wouldn’t be difficult to do everyday, lol. Trust me- I get razzed by my neighbors ALL THE TIME.

vehicle oils, fluids and my lawn are all things I go full blown OCD about and I’m good with it. I don’t expect nor ask any of you to understand. Just sharing so some of you can take your pop shots. Some people count steps while others need to get their jabs in.

I can’t believe I just read through another Fumoto valve thread

 

I decided to give one a try. Haven't needed to drain the oil yet. I was hesitant because I didn't want it to get ripped off either....but having a skid plate cover it alleviates that concern.

Dumb question, but what size ID tube does one need when draining? Is this the same size as the filter drain valve on the 2nd gen?
