You were smart enough to ask an intelligent question, you will be smart enough to figure out the solution.
Now that I think about it, just email Vortex customer service, I bet they will know what size riser you need. But to be honest, a long time ago I used to worry about co-witness and dont anymore. I don't even have iron sites on any of my ARs, except my old A2. Once you get used to red dots, you will love them. Keep us posted on what solution you come up with. [IMG]

thats very good info. ive always shot open sites or scope. the red dot was different for me.not afraid to admit i struggle shooting with both eyes open. 50yrs of closing one eye is hard to break.been working on it with the handguns and AR.

We are in the same boat Buddy. Yes are you supposed to shoot with both eyes open, but I am an old fart like you and old habits die hard. I typically shoot with 1 eye closed out of habit. If I am shooting a dynamic course I will get in my mode and remember to keep both eyes open and its makes things easier moving from target to target. But a trainer told me, what I will tell you, if you are shooting good at fixed targets or game with 1 eye closed, just keep doing that...there is no harm in it.

Some will cover or close the cap on the front of the red dot. That way you are forced to keep both eyes open. The dot will still land on the target where you need it but only with the assistance of your other eye open.
As for the irons, they are back ups since you have your red dot. No need to have them co witness if the red dot works. If for some reason it stops working, you can remove it have your irons, or find the irons in the sight picture of the red dot lens. Just my opinion on that.

Ok, so I checked out dvor and found the Faxon 8.5" barrel for $89, the CMC trigger for $125, the ambi charging handle for $21, the Elftmann safety for $28. I can get everything for $294 shipped. Only thing left will be the BCG(either Faxon or Aero), rail(Aero), muzzle device, and sights(not decided on those....leaning towards BUIS).

And b/c I like pics

Also, I can get a Trybe BCG for $109 or a Faxon for $129. I have no experience with either one, but in my mind the Faxon should work well with their barrel, so I'm leaning a bit more towards it.....unless there's a reason I should save the $20 :D

The only sights I have ever fooled with is a Vortex Strikefire II. I have some basic BUIS that came on my Panzer BP 12 and the 410 upper I bought....but have yet to actually shot either one
