Since I’m a newer member here, the rules wouldn’t let me post in that huge sticky thread about lighting upgrades magnificently crafted by crashnburn80.

    Here is my quick question:
I am also wondering what is considered the best upgrade bulb for halogen hi-beam. Is it also the Phillips H-9?
I have already replaced low-beam with H-9 after trimming upper tab with a narrow box cutter knife, worked fine.

Unfortunately that thread had to get a minimum post count due to troll spammers.

The stock German Philips H9 is the best bulb for that application. The H9 is the highest performing in that compatible bulb base, and the German Philips one used by Toyota is the highest performing H9.

To boost high beam performance on the 3rd Gen you really need to add aux driving lights. There is a thread on SAE driving lights comparing several options here, though it isn’t as exhaustive. While the thread focuses on LED driving lights, there are many much less expensive halogen aux driving lights as well, though they tend to have a larger form factor.

Another quick question; did you test Sylvania brand halogen H9? It’s also an Osram/made in Germany bulb.

It is in the original post of the 3rd Gen thread. The numbers were lower than they should have been, in retrospect something wasn't right. I suspect I possibly got a bad bulb or something. But at the time as a very first test using 3rd Gen assemblies I didn't have any baseline to realize that the data seemed off.

I clicked on the title of this post expecting another dumpster fire headlight question. But was pleasantly surprised that the OP actually read the headlight mega thread first, then asked an educated question. Props to @joncure.

Thanks again crash. I’ll try not to bug you anymore about this topic. I’m sure re-reading your original thread will provide any additional answers to my questions.

So I now have foot in mouth situation. Sorry, but I’m back with another question. I’ve been digging through your original thread and haven’t quite found an answer yet about fog light upgrades.

I’m looking to improve fog light performance without replacing entire lens assembly with recommended upgrades by KC or Rigid (I’m on a tighter budget for that upgrade).

Is there a replacement fog bulb that increases performance without replacing lens assembly?

I was looking at bulbs like:
H16 Osram Fog Breaker (Deep Yellow)
    Nokya (Hyper Yellow) H16
    OR
Can H11 bulbs work in factory fog lens as well?

Happy to Help. Note in the fog thread, at the very top there are updated products linked. Diode Dynamics SS3s are the best performing (better than Rigid and KC) and their Sports are also less expensive. memario1214 on the forum (Hotshot Offroad) can hook you up with best pricing, and holiday sales should be just around the corner.

For your factory fogs, unfortunately the 20+ Tacomas all have the low performing H16 fogs. There are not any performance bulb upgrades for H16. There are some yellow options which will change the color, but not increase the output and will actually slightly reduce it as filters remove light. Though yellow filters remove much less light on a halogen than blue filters. If that is what you desire, then that would be a viable option for yellow. The H11 most likely will not fit. An alternative would be to pick up some 16-19 TRD Tacoma high performance wide-angle H11 fogs. These will cover a much larger area with higher output than the H16 units. You can find them used in the marketplace often for relatively cheap when people swap out to LED units. In H11 there are many bulb upgrade to choose from, allowing further output intensity gains, or yellow light options.
