Doing all the leg work for this.... most shops I checked with already are like 48 weeks backorder and its's going to cost you $999. Easier to enter CC while on the couch and wait for a new shocks. :anonymous:

Ha! Find me anyone who would do anything nowadays for a couple of hundreds, market has changed. Most shop hours are nowadays $120+ and any custom work like this is whatever they feel like, and if they don't feel like it they price it high. Plus my time to drive to each shop and listen to their BS why they want this much etc...

Take it to a machine shop, bore out the old bearing, you may have to oversize it a little bit so the hole is round again and is the right size to press in a spherical plain bearing.

    i.e.

    https://www.skf.com/ca/en/products/plain-bearings/spherical-plain-bearings-rod-ends/radial

Surely someone has high load rated ones in your size....

From all the places I talked already I have to take the shock apart for them to get that piece machined for X amount, which means rebuild, which means rebuilding pair, because rebuilding just one doesn't make sense. Which means seals and gaskets aren't available because COVID.:bananadead:
Still need misalignment spacers, tmr doesn't have them, already checked, c-clips of whatever new diameter, new rubber o-rings, by the time I figure this all out might be 2023 fall trail cleanup :angrygirl:

    :spending:

I think we find a real nice long washboard service road,

and we have a contest to see which shocks pop first on @Norilsk 's truck.

I think the OR shocks will just piss oil and die, or the end will bend over from bottoming out.

but I think the Sport shocks may actually go off with a big POP!

Couple Go-Pro's and we'll be laughing for weeks!

I posted the exact same link in the Elka thread a couple hours ago lol. Easy enough to press out the old outer bearing and press in a new one. Could probably do it with a shop vise a couple sockets. Those Elkas are the same as dirtbike suspension. Pretty hard to seal all the mud and water out. A grease fitting would be a nice addition.

WTF, the whole shock assembly is not longer than the bed of a milling machine. So it's easy to secure.

You must be talking with shock rebuild places or something, keep your eyes peeled for smaller machine shops or and old guy with a milling machine in his garage.

Clamp the end in a vice, use a dial indicator to get the end square and and parallel to the bed , clamp the shit out of it, drill and bore it out, you don't have to take the thing apart.

Since that is an Aluminum stem on the shock it is easy to machine, remember you want an interference fit between the inner bore and the outer race of the bearing, throw the bearing in the freeze and heat the Aluminum with a heat gun and it will make it much easier to press in the bearing.

Yeah if the id where the bearing was is not distorted and you have a same sized bearing , it is a 1 beer job with a couple sockets and a vice.

Bearing in the freezer helps to push it in too.

I don't think that needs to be a regular wear item. Wouldn't it be a no brainer to just harden that lower section?
