Properly potted......in a factory production environment????

    Already kicking caveats about..................

How do you "properly pot" a chassis ground? Or the ABS wheel sensors?

One loose wire or bad ground and a Tacoma could be dead on the street. Why do you think an EV will have more electronics? Because it's called an electric car?

Getting rid of the ICE removes the lead acid starting battery, starter motor, spark plugs/coils, injectors, fuel pump, multiple engine sensors, alternator, and more.

Electric motors have been around for well over a century. They're pretty damn simple and reliable really.

I had to have the transmission in the jeep rebuild at like 97,000 miles, not long after I paid it off. That was no fun but it did last 6 more years before I sold it. Hopefully the Tacoma is going to be better.

If you believe the propaganda that today’s vehicle last longer sure. But when you consider that there are plenty of classic show throughout the nation, not to mention all the classics in Cuba and all over the world, you begin to see the real story, not the fake media ones.
And a civic to an olds 442 is like comparing apples to oranges. It’s best to compare a modern Vette or Camaro to a civic to get the picture.

I know of at least one fellow who hugged a big Oak tree head on in a Sherman built (’60 Chevy)vehicle and walked away to tell about it. If a modern car was to T-bone my classic Olds, I’d have to send them my condolences. It’s a good thing they’re all plastic now though lol!

No fear here, I don’t buy the fake hype.

There will be circuitry and MCUs to control the power delivered to the motors and for charging the batteries. The sensors will still be there but will be monitoring other items.

Its not the motors, its the controlling circuits.

FWIW.....internal combustion engines have been around longer than electric motors.

Have a good night. Keep looking through myopic lenses.

Yes and no. Most of the electronics that go bad on modern cars are sensors and other electronics that aren't needed in EVs. The EV engine is far simpler than a gas engine, particularly in that it has fewer moving parts. But I do see where you are coming from, especially as manufacturers make them unnecessarily complex just for the appeal. Then again every manufacturer tends to do this.

I've been involved with electric motors through out my engineering career.

The most difficult design was the circuity, MCU and firmware to control "cordless" power tools. An EV is a big power tool. It will have the same issues. Most likely more issues than a "cordless" power tool.

Example: The typical 18 Vdc battery pack on a cordless tool has a very complex PCB. The production cost of a most basic PCB in a battery pack is over $10. EVs will have multiple PCBs which will be more complex. In that same power tool, there is a PCB to control the motor.

    Simple......doubtful. More reliable......highly skeptical.

While I have no fears of all electric EV’s after having a (very) small fleet of EZ-GO to get around, and finding them quite reliable, I do have a fear of not being able to get a charge to get going again once the juice wears off.

This I believe is where TOYOTA is letting common sense rule by sticking with the hybrids vs all electric. I just think we have enough problems now with the power grid and going all EV is a perfect recipe for disaster.

I don't think EVs will do well when exposed to road salt and humidity.

Maybe but I am sure they are going to be a challenge for 1st responders to deal with when they get in crashes. High voltage and batteries that can catch fire.

Jeeps were great before the FCA acquisition. Lots of old grand cherokees with 400k+ miles. But those days are long gone. You gotta really not like your money to buy a Stellantis vehicle.

Those XJs are pretty awesome with that in-line 6, torque at very low rpms. Wouldn’t mind getting one to beat around the bush. Some years had casting issues with the block though, forgot which ones.

No. Jeeps have sucked forever. I owned a Commando, a Cherokee Chief and Wagoneer in the 70's and early 80's. They sucked. They rusted. One caught on fire. They sucked long before FCA.

That would be one rare Cuda since the Hemi was a 426 and neither the 440 or Hemi were an option in 72.

Honest question. Why are they able to do it reliably for hybrids today and not a full electric in your opinion?

Cheap, non-sealed, starter motors seem to just fine in salt and humidity. If they can seal up gas engines that require huge volumes of air to make power why couldn't the seal a motor that doesn't have that requirement?
